MORGAN POV
As soon as we got back to the cabin that we had been staying in, Ezra went off to the bedroom without saying anything to anyone. I could see that he was visibly upset, but he doesn’t understand that we need to give Savannah a chance to adjust to everything that she’s just learnt.
I mean, not everything can be as easy as he wants it to be and he just needs to show patients here.
I guess, that’s not really something that he’s ever been great at.
“I guess it didn’t go well.” Aiden said.
“She shifted. We talked to her but she’s obviously freaked out. She doesn’t know what to think right now. Ezra was expecting her to come home with us but that was aiming too high.” I explained.
“Well, I really want her to come home as well. But if she’s been trained to hate us. If she’s grown up with people telling her that we’re the enemy, then what else is she meant to think?” Aiden asked.
“I know. That’s what I’ve been thinking.” I said.
Ezra then walked out of the room.
“I just got a mind link from Jesse. They’re planning on attacking another pack tonight.” Ezra said, grabbing the phone.
“They never give up, do they?” I asked.
“I guess not.” Ezra said.
He called the pack that was about to be attacked and they immediately started their evacuation protocol and started getting people to safety.
“Why aren’t they going after vampires? The ones who are a real threat?” Aiden asked.
“Because we live in packs. We hunt in packs. We are joined as packs. Vampires are mostly loners. They are harder to find.” I said, sitting down.
“I’m gonna go and help with the evacuation.” Aiden said, leaving the cabin.
I sat there on the couch staring at the wall in front of me when Ezra came and sat down beside me.
“I know that I am being a dick right now. I expected her to at least come back with us so we could talk to her for a little longer.” Ezra said, sitting next to me.
“They keep a really tight leash on the Hunters at that base. They would have noticed that they were gone.” I said.
Seeing that I was only just holding it together myself, he realized that he wasn’t the only one that was being affected by the whole situation.
He grabbed me around the waist and pulled me onto his lap and rested my head against his chest.
“I haven’t asked how you have been handling all of this?” He asked.
“It feels like it did 16 years ago. Right around the time when you threatened to reject me so you could get on with your life.” I said. And he kissed the top of my head.
“That’s why you’ve been extra quiet about all of this. You’re afraid that I’m going to say the same thing?” Ezra asked.
“I am afraid that I am going to say something that will cause us to fight. There’s a lot of shit going through my head right now, none of it is bad towards you, but it’s still going to cause the same fights that we had 16 years ago.” I said.
He hugged me tighter to him and he forced me to look at him while he kissed me.
“I promise that I am not going to threaten to reject you. You were really affected by it last time and you wouldn’t leave the pack. But now, I think I’m the one that’s losing it a bit.” He said.
It’s understandable. I mean, he’s seen her now. He knows that she’s here. And it’s frustrating at how resistant she is to us.
But it’s not her fault. If those assholes hadn't brainwashed her against us, then we wouldn’t have a problem now.
“Because it was a trap. They just wanted to know who was the spy and they figured out that it was Jesse and Eric.”
“Well, that means that they are probably attacking somewhere else tonight.” Aiden said.
“I know. We’ll hear about it tomorrow.” I said.
Ezra started putting out notices to every pack that we knew about the Hunters and they would pass it on to other packs.
Every pack would be prepared for a full evacuation by morning if that was the case. For when they get attacked.
“Are you sure that Savannah’s safe?” I asked.
“Yeah. But these woods are crawling with Hunters. You need to leave as well.” Eric said.
I looked at Ezra and I ran to the bedroom to start packing our things.
We needed to make it look like we had never been here.
This cabin was off of any map and no one would ever be able to find it unless they were searching the woods like the Hunters were doing now or unless they actually knew that it was here.
As soon as we got everything packed we left the cabin and ran through the woods for about half an hour before we came to a dirt road where our car was parked and we all got in it and started driving away.
I was behind the wheel of the car because I could sense Ezra’s hesitation.
If he really wanted it his way then we would have stayed there and fought. But we don’t know the extent of the Hunters. They are obviously scattered all over the country and we don’t know what their response time is.
And we are no good to Savannah if we’re dead.
