Chapter 89
EZRA – The first sign of trouble and you call me. I’ve already rented a second car in case I need it.
ME – I will but you concentrate on those kids. That’s where I need you right now.
EZRA – And I need you to be safe. I’m not losing you as well. Please?
ME – Alright. I’ll be careful. I’ll be safe. And I’ll let you know if something happens. I’ll call you later and let you know how my mother is.
EZRA – Alright. I’m sure she’s fine. I love you.
ME – I love you too.
I sat there waiting patiently for my mother to come back, but I wasn’t sure where she was or how long she was going to take.
I started looking at a few things on my phone and I was getting more anxious the longer I was sitting there.
I got up and started pacing before I stopped to look out the window.
There wasn’t anyone around. I couldn’t get over that. But it wasn’t just that. The yards that I saw were overgrown, like people had fled their houses and hadn’t been here in a long time.
I was wondering if that’s what actually happened. Maybe Logan became too much for a lot of people and they fled.
It made sense. No one can handle having an overbearing unreasonable Alpha controlling their lives.
They all seemed pretty devoted to Logan five years ago. He would have had to have done some pretty drastic changes for people to want to get away from him.
I had been waiting there for way too long when I turned back to look at the bed.
I walked over and grabbed the file that the nurse had looked in and I saw that it was blank. There was nothing written in it. And definitely nothing written about my mother getting tests.
So I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and I walked out of the room.
“Hello.” Ezra answered almost immediately.
“This was a set up. They sent me to a room in the hospital and told me she was getting tests. It wasn’t her room at all.” I said. 1
“Get the hell out.” He said.
“I am.” I said.
“Let me know when you’re in the car.” He said, as I walked out the front doors of the hospital.
“I can’t do that.” I said.
“Why not?” He asked. And I froze in that one spot, right out the front of the hospital doors to see Logan leaning against my car.
“What the hell are you doing Logan?” I asked.
“Well, I figured that if you were alive this was the only way I was going to get you back here.” He said.

“Where’s my mother?” I asked.
“She’s at the packhouse. The doctor is looking after her there.” He said.
“She really is sick?” I asked.
“She is.” He said.
“Where the hell is everyone?” I asked.
“Hiding.” He said.
“Why?” I asked.
“This place has to look like a ghost town. Abandoned. In case the army starts snooping around.” He said.
“The army.” I said.
“They’re starting to identify wolf packs. And I knew that you would be in one of them. I needed to get you back here so you wouldn’t be killed in one of those other packs.” He said.
“Don’t start pretending like you care about me now.” I said.
“I’ve never stopped caring about you. And I didn’t believe that you were dead. I just knew that you really wanted to get the hell away from me. But all of that’s about to change.” He said.
“I rejected you.” I said.
“I know. And this pack. You took on a new pack. I can smell it. But now that you’re here, it doesn’t mean you’re leaving.” He said, looking at me with a wicked smile crawling across his face,
I looked down at the phone and I could see that Ezra was still on the call so he was hearing all of this.
And right now, the army is the least of Logan’s troubles. I knew that Ezra was already on his way.
