‘Hey Joce. Can you come to my office please?’ Amelia’s voice floats into my mind.

‘Be right there.’

I walk out of my office, saying hello to the individuals who are walking or working nearby. The feel of this pack is so much better than what I have with Zahn. I know I didn’t exactly participate in his pack’s activities, and I wasn’t friendly with anyone, but the feel of his pack wasn’t the calm, relaxed feeling that Amelia is culminating in this pack. Even with the issues that she has with her mate and Calvin being in our hospital, even being a new mom and a new Alpha, the first female Alpha, she’s managing to not only keep the pack functional, but happy. Amelia is the kind of Alpha that I’ve always wanted, the kind who is easy to trust and easy to follow.

I knock on her door, which is slightly ajar, and when I poke my head in, she waves for me to

come in.

“Ezra, Jocelyn just joined us.”

“Hello, Beta Jocelyn,” he says, as she puts the phone on speaker.

“Hello Alpha. I hope all is well with Alpha Dutton and Lunas Tiffany and Tammi,” I say, pulling up a chair opposite Amelia as she puts the phone in between us.

“The Lunas are doing as well as can be expected. Alpha Dutton has been gone for a couple of days looking for Alpha Alexandra. To my knowledge, he hasn’t found her yet. He’s checking in once a day to let us know that he’s alright and to make sure his mates are doing well.”

“That’s good,” I say, looking at Amelia. I’m not sure why I’m here.

“Beta, I asked Amelia to call you in because I have some questions for you.”

“Alright,” I say, frowning at Amelia. She smiles to let me know that it’s nothing bad.

“Have you ever heard of a company called Land Moguls, Inc.?”

“No. Should I have?”

“Let me back up,” Ezra says. “Are you aware that our group of Alphas is trying to buy the land in between our packs so that we can basically have one massive patrol protecting all of us?”

“Yes, I knew about the land where the mountain resides. Luna Nikki and the other Lunas have been vocal about wanting to make that area into a community area.”

“That’s correct. But we’re also looking into the land past Alpha Reese and Alpha Jake’s packs to those such as mine, Alpha Elias’ and Alpha Joshua’s old packs, and also Alpha Zahn’s old packs,” he says. Obviously, whatever he wants to talk about has something to do with Zahn’s pack, my old pack. That’s why he needed to talk to me.

“Does this Land Mogul company own Zahn’s pack?” I ask.

“No, Zahn owned the pack outright, which we’ll come back to in a minute. Land Mogul, Inc. manages the holdings of the land. What Zahn did and none of us realized or even paid attention to was buy the land between my pack and his, and the land between his pack and both Alpha Hunter’s and Alpha Kayce’s packs.”

“Holy shit! That’s a lot of land.”

“Yes, it is.”

“Why would he do that?” I ask.

“I don’t know for sure, but the obvious reason to me is that he intended to take out our packs, one at a time. I’m guessing that I would have been first, since I’m more secluded than the others, but

I sit in stunned silence for a moment, then I look up at Amelia.

“You understand what Ezra is saying, right? That land now belongs to you, Jocelyn. You were Zahn’s Luna and as the only remaining ranked member of that pack and as his mate, it all goes to

you,” Amelia says.

“What am I going to do with it? It’s so far away from here,” I say to her.

“You have the option to become the Alpha of your own pack, Jocelyn,” she says gently. “You could start fresh, rebuild what has been destroyed …” I’m shaking my head before she finishes.

“I don’t want it. I don’t want any of it. The only memories that I have there are horrible, terrible memories. You can burn it to the ground for all I care. I don’t want it. I don’t…” I can feel the emotions bubbling up inside of me, ready to explode. The awful memories, the fear of my time in that pack start to flood back into my mind.

Amelia gets up and walks around her desk, wrapping her arms around me. “You don’t have to. It was just an option, one that I wanted to make sure you knew about in case you’ve reconsidered becoming an Alpha of your own pack,” she says in her calm way.

I shake my head, holding onto Amelia’s arms in my own version of a return hug, but also as a way of helping to ground me. I haven’t felt nervous like this since before Zahn was killed.

She waits until my breathing comes back to normal and when she speaks, I’ve forgotten that Alpha Ezra was even on the call.

“You have other options, Jocelyn. I insisted that we offer you the Alpha position first, but Alpha Ezra has another option for you,” Amelia says, squeezing my shoulder and returning to her seat

“What option is that?” I ask.

“Sell the land to us, or you continue to own it, and you rent it back to us. It would mean that your pack’s warriors would need to help patrol it though, if we’re going to create the larger border that

“Who would buy the land? I mean, that’s a lot of land and I have no idea how much it’s worth, but I’m guessing it’s a lot since there’s so much area involved,” I say,

“I would talk to Kayce and Hunter and maybe even Robin to see if they wanted to buy it and expand their pack lands. It would create shared borders like what you have with Alpha Dutton and Alpha Lucas, only on a larger scale.”

“And Zahn’s pack?”

“That’s up to you. We could have a competition for that pack making sure that the contestants knew they’d have to pay you for the land, or you could donate it to the new Alpha. Again, it’s up to you.”

“Do Lunas Margot and June also own their previous packs?”

“I’m looking into that. I’m wondering if Joshua, in particular, didn’t start buying out land. His pack is closer to Robin’s and Reese’s packs but realizing that you own all of this land has opened pandora’s box of questions about who owns what now. Even Owen’s old pack is in question.”

I look at Amelia again. “I have an idea.”

“I would be shocked if you didn’t,” she says smiling at me.
