Nathan's gaze dragged over Claire's body, his hands reaching up to loosen his tie. "Not a bad setup."
He stepped closer, his tone dripping with absolute entitlement. "Looks like my beautiful fiancée will have to make some compromises with me tonight."
Claire kept her back to him, methodically unpacking her suitcase. "Don't worry, I'm taking the sofa. I won't get in your way."
"You..." Nathan sneered. "We're getting married soon anyway. Why are you acting like such a prude?"
Ignoring him, Claire pulled his casual dinner suit from the garment bag and draped it over a chair.
"Take a shower and get dressed. We have dinner with the CEO and his wife at the rooftop restaurant at seven. We cannot afford to be late."
Knowing a multi-million-dollar deal was on the line, Nathan wisely swallowed his temper and backed off.
At seven o'clock, the rooftop restaurant of the Rosemont was the picture of private, high-end elegance.
Harrison Rhodes was in his late thirties, radiating intellectual charm. Sitting beside him was Penelope Rhodes, looking stunning and elegant. The two of them were completely inseparable, whispering and smiling at each other.
"Mr. Rhodes, it's a pleasure. I briefly met you with my father back in Empire City."
"Mr. Rhodes, Mrs. Rhodes, it is an absolute honor," Nathan greeted them, perfectly playing the role of the polite, ambitious young executive.
"And this is my fiancée, Claire Jenner. We're tying the knot very soon." He aggressively pushed the loving couple narrative.
Claire offered a graceful nod and produced a beautifully wrapped gift box she had prepared in advance.
"Mrs. Rhodes, a small token of my appreciation for our first meeting."
Nathan shot Claire a panicked, furious glare. They hadn't discussed gifts.
What kind of cheap garbage could she possibly afford? If she offended these billionaires...
Penelope curiously untied the ribbon and opened the box. She froze for two seconds before letting out a gasp of pure delight. "Oh my goodness! It's Snowball! Honey, look at this!"
Harrison leaned in, his eyes widening in approval. "Wow. That is a perfect replica of Snowball."
