Claire's phone had died, so she went to Miles's study to grab a charger.

Vivian followed closely behind her and shut the study door.

"Ms. Jenner, I'll be blunt," she said, getting straight to the point. "I know you're interested in Dr. Zimmerman, but you two are from entirely different worlds."

Claire simply stared at her, completely unfazed.

Vivian tilted her chin up. "Miles is a medical doctor and the future heir to the Zimmerman family empire. He needs a partner of equal standing, someone whose background is impeccable."

"Not some little influencer with zero background, zero education, and zero family connections. How could you possibly match him?"

Claire listened quietly, then let out a sudden laugh.

"Match him? Why do I need to match him?"

"I just want him, and that's enough."

Her voice was dangerously soft. "Dr. Langford, if Dr. Zimmerman actually liked you, you two would have been together a long time ago. Why would he have kept you waiting until now?"

Vivian's face turned completely pale.

Without another word, Claire walked straight out of the study.

In the living room, Jared carried the hotpot to the dining table. The space instantly filled with lively chatter as everyone gathered around.

Only then did Claire learn that Miles had petitioned his superiors to grant official certification credits to the doctors who had volunteered at the Westhaven Village clinic.

Such recognition was nearly impossible to secure and crucial for their future promotions, which was why they had begged Dr. Johnston to bring them over to thank him.

The dinner conversation revolved entirely around hospital affairs. Claire couldn't chime in much, but she didn't find it boring. She listened quietly to the gossip, occasionally adding a gentle comment with a warm smile.

Claire reached for a meatball from the spicy side of the pot.

Just as she was about to eat it, a fork smoothly bypassed her plate and snatched the meatball right out of her grasp.
