The One I Should've Married (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 73

Stella wasn't fully awake yet.

She felt Sebastian scoop her up from the bed.

Startled, her first instinct was to strike out, but a deep, soothing voice echoed in her ear, "It's me."

Stella paused.

She blinked groggily. "What are you doing?"

In the two days since she snapped out of her trance, she had been so busy fighting the Sinclairs and the Channings that she hadn't slept well at all.

Coupled with the constant fear that the parasitic soul would hijack her body again if she fell asleep, her rest had been fraught with anxiety.

It was only here, by Sebastian's side, that she felt safe enough to truly rest!

Especially when pressed against the tattoo on his chest, she felt her very soul stabilize.

Yet here he was, pulling her out of bed before she was even fully conscious.

Watching her instinctual defensive reaction, Sebastian pressed his lips into a thin line, settling her onto his lap.

He reached for some clothes and began pulling them over her. "Did you forget?"

His magnetic voice was still deep, but if one listened closely, there was a hint of warmth in it.

Perhaps the ruthlessness of the past three years was simply etched too deep into his bones!

Because she had shown up in T Country so abruptly, the warmth that was exclusively hers hadn't fully returned to him yet.

Hearing his question, Stella looked confused. "Forget what?!"

Had she been possessed by that ghost again while she slept?

Did she promise him something she shouldn't have?

No, that couldn't be right... That damn ghost only knew how to hurl insults at him!

Just thinking about the ghost using her mouth to demean and curse Sebastian made Stella want to hunt the entity down and destroy it.

Sebastian replied, "We need to visit the temple before returning to the city."

Hearing this, Stella breathed a massive sigh of relief.

She really thought the ghost had taken over again.

Going to the temple was a great idea!

She had heard the temples here in T Country were incredibly effective.

She was looking for an enlightened master to help suppress the ghost for good.

"There's no need to rush, right? I haven't even woken up yet."

Stella's sleep-laced tone carried a hint of genuine grievance.

It was a good thing it was Sebastian. If anyone else had woken her up like this, her morning temper would have eaten them alive.

"Some things are better handled sooner rather than later," Sebastian said.

In that moment, his profound tone seemed to carry a deeper, hidden meaning.

Stella nodded in agreement. "True."

The sooner she found someone to suppress that ghost, the better.

Otherwise, she would be sleeping in constant terror of being possessed again.

She looked down at herself. "How did I get undressed like this?"

She remembered being fully clothed when she fell asleep in his arms.
