The Pack's Hacker (by Cooper) novel Chapter 407

Wendy

I expected my father to be here. I don’t know why I suddenly feel less secure without him here, but even knowing that Connor, Quirin, Henry, and Yorick are here, I don’t feel as safe as I would if my father were here.

I push that down as we head to Cyra’s old packhouse. Since everyone is in the new packhouse or out chasing Stellan, it’s quiet when we pull up. Quiet, except for the sounds of the alarms going off from inside the Alpha office.

“What do we do now?” I ask when I park in front of the packhouse. I turn and watch Jude as he works on his computer.

“We need to go inside and see what the alarms are saying,” he says.

“I can…” “}

“No! Wait for me, Wendy,” he says. Since he was clear earlier about us using codenames during an operation, I know that this is personal. He’s worried about me.

“My dad’s going to be really pissed that he wasn’t here.”

“Your dad will be more pissed if someone gets injured and it’s our job to make sure that doesn’t happen,” he says, grabbing his computer. “Come on, let’s go.”

We get out of the van and make our way inside. I thought we’d rush to the Alpha office, but Jude forces me to slow down. He lifts his nose in the air, searching for something.

“What are you sniffing for?” I ask.

“Stellan,” he growls.

“Do you smell him?” I whisper.

He doesn’t answer. Instead, he pushes me behind him and begins walking slowly into the abandoned packhouse, holding me against his back.

“Take my computer,” he says, handing it back to me. I do and look at the monitor that is still open.

“Heat source directly in front of us,” I whisper.

“Not in front. Look closer,” he says. Once again, he’s already seen what I haven’t.

I look again.

“He’s upstairs?”

“Yes,” he whispers.

I look again, trying to get a location on where he is.

“Is that… is that Landon and Lila’s room?”

“I think so,” he says.

“Do NOT approach, Hacker!” Raptor says in the earbud. I totally forgot we were connected to them.

“Venom, Intrigue, and Hellfire crossing the northern border of the pack,” Venom says.

“We’re almost there, Hacker. Do not do anything stupid!” Raptor says. “He’s here, Raptor. Even if we back out, he could come for us. Better to be on offense than defense,” Hacker murmurs.

He leads us to the stairwell that goes up to the ranked members’ rooms. As quietly as I can, I set the laptop down and close the cover. We know where Stellan is. Now it’s better if both Hacker and I have free hands to fight.

“We’re at the guard gate,” Raptor growls. I know he’s rushing to get here. He doesn’t like Hacker’s odds with me here. I’m a liability.

Hacker continues forward, keeping me pressed behind him as we begin climbing the stairs to the Gamma floor. When we get there, I hear the sound of destruction. It sounds like a wild animal has gotten into the packhouse and is tearing it apart. However, I know it’s Stellan and that scares me more than anything. If he’s this out of control, what happened to him. He used to be an Alpha. As an Alpha, I know that no matter what happened between me and Hacker, I would never do something like this.

Hacker stops and puts up a hand, letting me know to stay still and be quiet.

“We’re coming, Hacker. Do not engage!” Raptor says.

Unfortunately, at that moment, a very feral looking Stellan slams out of Landon and Lila’s bedroom. He’s panting heavily and frothing at the mouth.

“Feral,” Hacker confirms. I’m not sure if it’s meant for me or Raptor, but Raptor responds immediately.

“Hacker, get the fuck out of there. NOW!”

I understand that we can’t move. Any movement on our part will turn Stellan’s ire toward us. Instead, Hacker stands perfectly still, his body pressing mine against the wall so I can barely see what’s going on.

Unfortunately, Stellan turns and sees us. He snarls angrily, then leaps.

Jude shoves me aside and leaps to attack Stellan.

“JUDE!” I scream, as my body hits the ground.
