Piper
When we sit, Councilman Edward addresses my father and his attorney.
“Alpha Glenn Conley, you stand accused of selling women into unwanted mate bands. You are accused of initiating and soliciting buyers, then attempting to sell your daughter Vivienne Abbott into a mate bond with Gamma Nathan West. You are accused of initiating and soliciting buyers, then attempting to sell your daughter, Alpha Piper Conley, into a mate bond with Alpha Peter Moore.
How do you plead?”
“Excuse me, Councilman. I would like to make one change to the charges you’ve presented,” the prosecuting attorney says.
“What is that?” he asks.
“Alpha Piper Conley has officially completed her mate bond with Alpha Henry Bishop. She is Luna Piper Bishop now, not Alpha Piper Conley.”
My father sneers as he turns to look at me. Henry glares back at him, wrapping his arm around me in a show of protective possessiveness. I just smirk at my father, knowing I’ve gotten the better of him again.
“Noted. The record will show the change in Luna Piper’s title and surname. Alpha Glenn, how do you plead?”His attorney stands to face the council. “Weplead not guilty, councilman. We contest that Luna Piper, and the rogue Vivienne, are making false allegations against Alpha Glenn. He also denies that the rogue Vivienne is his daughter.”
“Paternity is easy enough to prove, especially since we have a renowned doctor in the courtroom today.”
“Your honor, I do not believe that it is appropriate to utilize someone who is currently supporting the prosecution to run this test,” the attorney says.
“You’re welcome to get a second opinion at your client’s expense, councilor, but this court and the council recognize Dr. Yara Hill as a leader in the medical profession. She is our choice to conduct the test. And since she’s here, we can do that test today before your client leaves the courtroom.”
My father’s attorney looks at him, but he just growls at having lost again.
“We are also requesting that my client be released pending his trial. He and his son, the current Alpha of the pack have been taken into custody, leaving the second brother in charge of the pack while they are away. Alpha Glenn is not a flight risk, as he intends to take over the pack while these proceedings continue.”
“Counciler? Do you object to Alpha Glenn being released?” Councilman Edward asks, turning to the prosecuting attorney.”Your honor, as both of the offended parties are here, l have asked for their input into this matter, expecting that Alpha Glenn would request immediate release. Both women have said that they are not comfortable with Alpha Glenn being released at this time. While Luna Piper is now protected by her mate bond Alpha Henry, Vivienne does not have the same protection. I would ask the court to take that into consideration. I would also remind the court that there is a current investigation into the death of the Miss Abbott’s mother, along with other she-wolves who have gone rogue or are lone wolves. While those charges are still pending, they could potentially impact the outcome of this case,” he says. My father scoffs, as if those women mean nothing. To him, they don’t.
– Councilman Edward looks at the Tech Team. “Tracker, do you and your team have any input into the release of Alpha Glenn?” he asks.
“Your honor, if you decide to release Alpha Glenn, we would suggest that the funds allocated into his personal account as well as the pack’s account be frozen. In addition, our team has found a third, hidden account where it appears that large sums of money have been paid to Alpha Glenn. However, we have not had a sufficient amount of time to determine where and from whom those funds have come from. Given the hidden nature of that account, the Tech Team would recommend against releasing Alpha Glenn at this time,” Tracker says.
My father snarls, and his attorney slaps a hand on his shoulder as he starts to stand. Javelin and Bane movebehind my father, ready to step in if he makes any move to attack.
Councilman Edward turns to look at the other council members. They only discuss for a few moments before he turns back.
“This triat will be scheduled in three weeks. Does that give the tech team time to research the funding sources found in this hidden account?”
“Yes, Councilman,” Hijack answers.
“As for releasing Alpha Glenn, the Council denies his request. He is to return to his cell after giving Dr. Hill the DNA sample she needs to run the paternity test on Vivienne. Vivienne, do I need to issue a court order to have you complete the DNA testing on your end?” he asks her.
“No, your honor.”
“Good. This court is adjourned.”
“I need to get going,” Vivienne says.
“You can have lunch with us, Vivienne. You need to get checked over and I’d like a full report while you’re here anyway,” he says, his tone broaching no argument.
She nods.
“I’m waiting for Yara, but after she takes the swab from Glenn, we’ll be along. She’ll need one from you anyway, Vivienne. We’ll see you at lunch,” Alpha Warren says.
I take Henry’s hand, putting a hand on Gavin’s back as we begin to follow the others to the diner that is down the street.
“Are you okay, Gavin?” I ask him.
“Yeah. Henry prepared me. It was like he said it would be.
They tried to get me back and when I didn’t agree, they said mean things to me. I can’t believe dad lied about Vivienne though.”
“Then he’d have to admit he knew my mother and since she’s dead, that is much too close for comfort, Gavin,” she says, falling into step beside us.
“Yeah. I guess so.” He’s quiet for a moment as we walk. ”
How did I not realize Gage was such an idiot?”
I burst out laughing.”Goddess, I love you, Gavin.”
