Piper
When Henry and Gavin picked me up on Friday, I was surprised to see that Gavin has started to respond to Henry in a similar way to how he responds to Yara, like he’s seeking approval and attention.
And my amazing mate not only rolls with it, he seems to encourage it, feeding my brother’s emotional needs without even thinking about it.
The weekend was amazing as always and went by much too quickly. While I was in the pack, we spent the time preparing for my Luna ceremony next weekend. Henry insisted that I go shopping for a dress and when Cyra and Cyrus showed up to take me, I knew I couldn’t argue. Cyra doesn’t have time to waste on clothes shopping, so for her to come take the time to do this with me was special.
“How are you feeling about graduation?” she asked over lunch.
“I’m excited. You?” I ask, rocking baby Cyrus so Cyra can eat.
“Nervous and excited. You’re a natural, you know?” she says, nodding at me holding her son.
“I don’t know about that. He’s a good baby.”
“Have you thought about having pups?” she asks.
“Yeah. The thought comes to me more ofter than I’d expect now,” I confess.
“Being mated to a man who takes care of your family, who looks after you, and who is as much of a family man as Henry is will do that to you.”
“He’s SO perfect, Cyra. I really never thought l’d be satisfied being a Luna and having a bunch of pups. But honestly, as Henry’s mate, it sounds like a fucking dream come true now.”
“So, what does that mean for you being on a rotating squad?”
“Well, first, I have to make it as an alternate. But, I don’t know,” I say, looking down at Cyrus in my arms. “The idea of holding my own little Baby Henry makes my heart ache.
Is that crazy?” I ask, looking up at her.
“No, my friend. That is love.”
“Well, I am definitely in love.”
After lunch, we went to several dress shops until we found the perfect dress. Cyra insisted that I get one that is royal blue to match my eyes. I wanted something that would make Henry’s eyes pop out of their sockets and make him remember that there is no other woman in the world that could make him feel like I do.
In the end, I think we both left happy.
By Sunday, I was gearing up for another week at schooland another trip to court. Once again, Gavininsisted on coming and after seeing how things went last week, I didn’t argue. I think he needs to see how different our new family is from our old one. I don’t ever want to give him a reason to doubt that what I’ve told him is the truth and what dad, Grady, and Gage have told him are a bunch of ties.
This week, like last week, is a bit easier with Henry staying-through Monday and then returning on Wednesday night before court. But even with barely thirty-six hours apart, couldn’t wait to get him alone in our room.
And then we were back in court, for Grady this time.
Vivienne showed up looking better this week than last week. In truth, she looked tired but happy. Apparently, she got another couple of she-wolves off the streets, one of which had a child so sick, he would have died if Kennedy hadn’t treated him when she did.
“Word is starting to get around, Piper. The she-wolves know who I am. They’re listening when I talk to them. They may not agree right away, Alpha Quirin is a pretty scary Alpha after all, but when I see them again, they ask more questions. I’m feeling hopeful that I’ll be able to get more of them the help they need.”
She’s so animated, so much more enthusiastic than I’ve ever seen her before, that | let the faint bruises on her arms and shoulders go. copied from jo-bn-ib-com She’s doing a hard job, but she’s excited about the impact that she’s having, and I want her to enjoy that.Gage arrives with another group of warriors, but there isn’t any posturing this time and he keeps his mouth shut during court. Grady, however, does not.
“I see the rumors are true, Gavin. You’ve turned traitor to your own family,” he growls when he walks into the courtroom and sees us sitting there.
“Henry is more of a brother and Alpha to me than you ever were, Grady. So, shut the fuck up.”
Grady looks like he’d been slapped, the shock of Gavin standing up to him evident on his face before it shifts to a nasty snarl.
This time, it was only Vivienne’s opinion about Grady being released that was needed. They are still investigating his involvement in the death and cover up of her mother’s death, but based on what we hear in court, Grady knew and was involved in everything that our father was doing. It makes my stomach twist.
“Gavin, what do you know about any she wolves in our family’s pack that might not have been willing mates?” | ask him quietly.
He shrugs. “I’m not sure,” he says, but Vivienne leans forward, looking at me.
“Beta Robert’s mate,” she says quietly.
“MY pack,
“Grady snarls.”Not at the moment, it isn’t,” Councilman Edward says.
Your trial is scheduled to commence in two weeks, Alpha Grady. You will remain in custody until such time as your trial concludes. Court dismissed.”
When we stand to leave, I step out into the walkway. Gage steps out as well.
“Piper.”
Henry is instantly at my side, and I feel my family, my REAL family creating a wall of support behind me.
Gage looks at the people behind me, pressing his lips together, before continuing.
“Do you really think that Beta Julia and maybe some others might have been forced into a mate bond?” he asks. I can see in his eyes he’s hoping that l’ll say no, but l can’t. The possibility that our father or brother forced these women into a mate bond is more likely than not.
“I think there’s one way to find out,” I tell him. “Let them into the pack. All you’ll do is make more problems for yourself if you don’t. If there are she-wolves who were forced into mate bonds, you can let them know they have options for other packs where they can live in peace.
Henry and I will take them in and so will any of our allied packs.”
“Will you be here next week? For dad’s trial?” he asks.
“Yes.””Could we, maybe, have lunch or something?”
“As long as you don’t mind Henry joining us,” I say, knowing there’s no way Henry will let me meet with Gage alone.
He looks at Henry, then at Gavin. “Maybe the four of us can have lunch together?”
I look at my brother for a long time.
“Yeah. Yeah, we can do that.”
