The Paper Wife’s Empire novel Chapter 383

“…Jotham, what did I ever do to you to deserve this?” Brianna stared at him, feeling as if she were looking at a terrifying stranger. All the tender moments, all the promises they had shared, now felt like a cruel joke.

“Why bother asking a question you already know the answer to?” Jotham’s eyes were devoid of any warmth as he looked at her. The only reason he was even standing here was to watch her suffer.

Brianna had destroyed his life. If he was going to hell, he fully intended to drag her down with him.

“I lied to you, yes, but my feelings for you were real! I had your child, I did everything I could for you. Jotham, how can you do this to me? Do you even have a heart?” Brianna’s voice was becoming eerily calm.

While she was in custody, all she had thought about was seeing him. Ramona had warned her of Jotham’s cold-blooded nature, but she had clung to a sliver of hope. She thought that if he couldn't be completely heartless toward Ramona, he surely couldn’t be so cruel to her after ten years together.

But listening to his icy words and seeing the raw disgust in his eyes, Brianna finally accepted the truth.

His affection for her had never been as deep as she’d imagined, and now, what little there was had been completely eroded.

“You should ask yourself that question,” he countered. “You talk about my heart? What about yours? We were a perfect match, weren’t we? I was selfish and cruel to Ramona, but how are you any different? You’re just as heartless, looking out only for yourself.”

“Brianna, you’ll do anything to get what you want, and you don’t care who you have to crush to get it. You and I are the same. Neither of us is better than the other.”

“You stand there talking about your feelings, but how much of it was ever real? Did you want to be with me, or did you just want to *beat* Ramona? You know the answer to that, don't you?”

Every word was a precision strike, aimed to inflict maximum damage. He tore away her last shred of dignity, leaving her completely exposed.

The color drained from Brianna’s face. She was speechless, cornered by his brutal honesty. A wave of pure fury washed over her, and she swung her hand, slapping him hard across the cheek.

“Heh…”

Before Jotham could say another word, she slapped him again.
