Remembering Nova's hostile attitude earlier, Holden's gaze grew cold.
His enthusiasm for Heath instantly faded. Seeing that the kid had no intention of leaving, he asked coldly, "Does your sister know you're here?"
"My sister..." Heath's hesitation said it all.
He had always wanted to find an opportunity to thank Holden and had mentioned it to Nova several times over the phone.
But every time, Nova shut him down. She insisted that they were from completely different worlds, telling Heath to mind his own business and stop dwelling on such minor favors.
Heath, however, felt differently. Even if it was just a small effort on Holden's part, it shouldn't be brushed off. Their mother had always taught them to repay kindness tenfold. Besides, it was obvious that Holden was interested in his sister, and Heath genuinely liked the guy.
The last time they drove back into the city, Holden had shared plenty of fascinating stories about his life, his work, and the broader world he had experienced.
In Heath's eyes, Holden was an exceptional, sophisticated mentor—loyal, generous, and fun to be around.
"Let me guess, she definitely didn't want you coming to see me." Seeing the boy's dilemma, Holden finished the thought for him.
Heath nodded sheepishly. "Holden, she's just a bit guarded... but she has a good heart, and she knows how to be grateful!"
"Grateful?" Holden scoffed with a cold smirk. "Clearly."
Hearing this, Heath finally smiled. "Well, I should probably get going then."
Holden hadn't planned on talking to him much longer, but as the boy turned away, a thought crossed his mind. He called him back. "Do you have classes this afternoon?"
Heath paused and shook his head.
