Maeve naturally paid zero attention to the household staff. The employees could all sense the cold, isolated aura surrounding the future lady of the house, rendering her utterly unapproachable. But they were just there to do their jobs; none of them went out of their way to cozy up to their employers.
Maeve stood frozen, her mind a chaotic blur, until her phone suddenly rang. It was Alastair.
"I heard you caused quite a scene yesterday and went looking for Quinton. How did that work out for you?"
There wasn't a trace of fatherly concern in his tone, only a sick sense of amusement. Maeve lowered her gaze. She was completely drained and had zero desire to discuss Quinton anymore.
Witnessing his blatant devotion to Delilah yesterday had permanently frozen any lingering warmth she had for him.
"Just say whatever it is you called to say. Layne isn't home right now."
She knew perfectly well that Alastair never called with good news.
Alastair let out a dry, raspy chuckle. "The Everhart Group took a massive hit yesterday. Some unknown virus completely compromised their internal networks. This is a golden opportunity. You need to create a distraction. Keep Layne completely preoccupied so he can't focus on saving his company."
Before he could finish, Maeve cut him off coldly.
"You're the one who told me I was terrible at handling men. I dated Quinton for years, and he still refused to marry me. Do you honestly think I have that much power over Layne?

I can’t even read this sickening story anymore, this couple didn’t even get a chance to be really happy before their marriage was torn apart. It had been dragged out long enough....
If Gwyn gets an abortion I am going to stop reading this story, I believe in pro-choice but come on. Why can't he just tell her what he is really doing with Patti instead of letting her think she is a mistress....
Why no updates? It’s been so long! Pls update....
