125 Chapter 125 Life Without Mommy

Zain’s POV

Blanche’s coldness brought back memories of how different things used to be between us. Back then, every moment we spent together

felt precious to her.

She’d wrap her arms around me and refuse to let go, constantly asking what I wanted to eat so she could cook it herself.

At Jacob Manor, Blanche would curl against me like a contented cat, always seeking my attention.

Now she’d become like a prickly hedgehog, shutting everyone out and keeping her distance.

The Blanche who once loved me so deeply had completely disappeared.

I didn’t respond to Blanche. Instead, I stared at the ceiling, lost in thought. The silence shattered when my phone rang sharply. Joanna

was calling.

Her voice was tight with worry when I answered. Zain, Carry’s sick againshe’s vomiting and complaining about stomach pain. Can you

come home?

I bolted upright. I’ll be right there.

After hanging up, I switched on the light. I climbed out of bed, pulled on clothes and shoes, then looked backBlanche remained

motionless on the couch.

I froze for a moment.

It was one thing for her not to care about me, but now she wasn’t even reacting to news about our daughter being sick.

After hesitating briefly, I approached the couch. Looking down at the back of Blanche’s head, I asked softly, Joanna says Carry isn’t

feeling well. Do you want to come home with me?

Blanche didn’t turn around. Her response was crisp. I’m not going. You handle it.

Before I could say more, Blanche sat up on the couch.

Seeing her movement, I thought she must still be concerned about Carry. Even if she claimed she wasn’t going, she obviously still cared.

I expected her to get up and get dressed, but instead she simply leaned back and looked at me. At her age, swollen lymph nodes can

cause stomach pain.

When you get back, make sure she takes her medication and watch her diet. No snacks, and keep her away from spicy food for now.

I stayed silent for a moment before asking, If you’re that concerned about her, why won’t you go see her?

Blanche gave a small, detached smile. I have work tomorrow, so I’ll stay here.

I could feel how distant she was, but I didn’t push further. I simply said, Alright.”

Then I turned and left.

Blanche’s POV

I lay back on the couch, and sleep became impossible.

Of course I was worried. But after some time, I finally managed to drift off, feeling slightly more at ease.

When I returned to Alexander Villa, every light blazed throughout the house. I saw Heidi busy in the kitchen, likely preparing something

for Carry.

As I climbed the stairs. I found Joanna holding Carry, gently trying to comfort her.

Perhaps due to her inexperience, Joanna was sweating profusely, clearly overwhelmed.

I entered the room and took Carry from Joanna’s arms.

Finally able to breathe, Joanna said to me, I’ll go downstairs and bring up some soup for Carry.

I nodded. Go ahead.

Once Joanna left, I began pacing the room with Carry in my arms. Seeing my daughter’s pale, pained face made my heart clench.

Carry pressed her face against my chest and asked in a raspy little voice, Daddy, isn’t Mommy coming home?

I could tell that despite her usual complaints about her mother, when Carry felt sick, she still longed for Blanche’s presence.

Hearing Carry ask about her mother made me feel worse. I murmured, No.

Carry’s eyes welled up with tears that began streaming down her cheeks. Daddy, Mommy doesn’t love me anymore.

I sat on the couch, looking at Carry seriously. Didn’t you tell me last time it would be fine if you never saw Mommy again?

Carry’s eyes looked weary. She blinked several times before saying, But when I’m sick, Mommy always rubbed my tummy.

I could see that Carry truly didn’t like her mother anymore, but whenever she felt unwell, she’d remember how caring Blanche could be,

Blanche’s hands were always so warm, and when she rubbed Carry’s tummy, it genuinely made her feel better.

Joanna would rub Carry’s tummy too, but her hands lacked that magic touch, so the pain persisted.

Thinking about Blanche’s current behavior, I didn’t know what to tell my daughter.

After a pause, I nuzzled Carry’s forehead and said gently, I can rub your tummy too. Let me try.

Carry nodded and lifted her shirt, exposing her little belly.

I gently placed my large hand on her small tummy, and Carry began giggling.

Seeing her happiness, I couldn’t help bringing up something difficult. Carry, we need to get used to life without Mommy, okay?

Carry kicked her little legs and shrugged. I’m already used to it. I only miss Mommy when I don’t feel well, but Daddy, when you’re with

me, I don’t miss her at all.

That made me feel somewhat better. I lifted Carry, kissed her forehead, and promised, I’ll spend more time with you from now on.

No matter how busy I am or how far away, if you need me, I’ll come back, okay?

Okay. You’re the best, Daddy,Carry smiled happily. She hugged my neck tightly, though I could sense her heart felt a bit heavy.

My hands felt nice, but I suspected it wasn’t quite the same as when Blanche rubbed her tummy. Despite everything, I could tell Carry

couldn’t help wishing Blanche would be the one doing it.

But Carry told herself it was fine. As long as Daddy and Miss Joanna were there, that was enough.

At Jacob Manor, dawn was breaking when I heard arguing from downstairs.

After getting up and washing, I opened the door and called a maid inside. What’s happening downstairs?

Amiya stood with her head lowered and replied, Miss Tia Jacob and Mrs. Jacob are arguing.

I frowned. Tia’s back?

Amiya nodded. “Yes, she returned last night.”

I asked again, What about Mr. Jacob?

If Oswald were here, Ophelia wouldn’t dare act so boldly, I thought.

Amiya replied, Mr. Jacob went for an early morning walk.”

I understood immediately; Ophelia was only throwing her weight around because Oswald wasn’t there to control her.

But I couldn’t be bothered with that drama. After getting ready, I headed downstairs.

When I arrived, Ophelia sat on the couch, seething with an ugly scowl on her face.

At the sound of footsteps, Ophelia looked up, and seeing me made her expression even sourer.

I didn’t even glance at her, just walked straight toward the front hall.

I had work to get to and no time to worry about anyone else.

Especially not my motherinlaw, Ophelia, who never appreciated anything I did for her.

Ophelia grew more furious when I ignored her and snapped, Stop right there.

I didn’t even flinch, continuing as if I hadn’t heard anything.

But just as I was about to exit the front hall, a solid body physically blocked me, forcing me back inside.

Kaden emerged from the shadows, his face finally visible.

He pushed me back into the hall, his voice low and harsh. Blanche, what did you say to my sister?

I shot him a cold look. That’s none of your business.”

Kaden’s temper flared, his words cutting. My sister is a Jacob; she’s nothing like you. She has a future worth protecting. If you want to waste away as a doctor, go ahead. But my sister won’t end up like that.
