143 Chapter 143 She Never Would Have Left
Blanche’s POV 1
When I got back to the Callum Mansion, every light was still blazing. Walking into the hall, I spotted Quinton and Amber still planted at
the dining table.
They both glanced up as I stepped inside.
I walked over and said, “Hey, Quinton. Hey, Amber.”
Quinton gave me a once–over before finally speaking. “Take a seat.”
I settled down beside Amber.
Amber studied my face with concern. “Have you eaten?”
I nodded. “Already did.”
Relief crossed Amber’s features, then she continued, “Camila sobbed for hours tonight. She finally wore herself out, so I had Isabela put
her to bed.”
Guilt twisted in my chest, but I couldn’t find the right words.
Amber’s hand found mine under the table, her fingers wrapping around my cold ones. “Thank you for taking Camila out today. Must’ve
worn you out.”
I shook my head, smiling. “Not even close. Being with Camila always makes me happy.”
Amber squeezed my hand. She stayed quiet, but I could sense her understanding.
Only another mother could really get what it feels like when your own kid doesn’t love you back.
While we talked, Quinton suddenly pulled out a bank card from nowhere and pushed it across the table toward me. “Here, Blanche. If
this divorce thing keeps dragging out, don’t get stuck on the money part.
“Sure, the Jacob Family’s got deep pockets, but that doesn’t guarantee they’ll be generous with you. Don’t sit around waiting for their
charity–just walk away. When this mess is over, Amber and I will always be here for you. Money won’t ever be an issue.”
Tears stung my eyes. I shook my head, pushing it back. “Quinton, I can take care of myself. I really can’t take this.”
I hadn’t filled my family in on much about the divorce, so I couldn’t fault Quinton for thinking the agreement was still hanging in limbo.
Truth was, Zain was being pretty fair about it. He’d agreed to give me a large sum as compensation.
Even though I refused, Amber still pushed the card into my palm. “It’s not a fortune, but it’s from Quinton and me both.”
I clutched the card tight, my throat burning as tears spilled down my cheeks. I still kept most of the divorce details from my family.
This whole divorce had been dragging on forever; now all that remained was filing the papers at the courthouse. This just made me more determined to be honest with Oswald.

The next morning at Callum Mansion, I slept in for the first time in forever. After finally getting proper rest, I felt completely recharged.
I was still half–asleep when a small hand wrapped around me. “Aunt Blanche, you’re awake!”
Camila’s voice.
Camila had shown up earlier that morning, but seeing me still dead to the world, she couldn’t bring herself to wake me up.
I rolled over and pulled little Camila close. “What brings you over, Camila?”
Camila snuggled against my neck. “Aunt Blanche, can you help me draw autumn? Ms. Suzanne assigned homework that’s due tomorrow,
but I haven’t finished it yet.”
I was about to say “absolutely” when my phone started ringing. I checked the screen–unknown number. I paused for a moment, then
answered.
Before I could speak, a bright voice came through. “Is this Miss Callum?”
I recognized Dorian’s voice and smiled. “Hi, Dorian, it’s me.”
Hearing my response, Dorian sounded excited. “Miss Callum, can you come hang out with me?”
I remembered I needed to help Camila with her autumn drawing, so I gently declined.
“Sorry, Dorian, I’m swamped today. Maybe another time?”
Dorian wouldn’t quit. “What about tonight?”
I laughed. “Tonight my family’s probably having dinner together.”
Dorian jumped in, “Can I come to dinner with you guys?”
Before I could respond, Camila couldn’t contain herself and shouted into the phone, “This is Callum family dinner. Why would you want
to come? You’re not even a Callum.”
Camila’s outburst left Dorian stammering. He mumbled, “Oh, right, okay then.”
Before I could say anything else, Camila hung up and complained, “Dorian acts all sweet at school, but he’s so clingy, like gum stuck to
your shoe.”
Camila’s reaction cracked me up. I reached over and touched her cheek, teasing gently, “Come on, don’t be so harsh. He’s just being nice,
not causing problems.”
Later, as we worked on Camila’s autumn drawing, my thoughts drifted to Carry. I wondered how she was adjusting to the changes at home. From what I’d heard through Oswald, she’d been having a tough time lately. Apparently, she’d woken up alone at Blissfield Villa that morning and had quite an emotional breakdown. Zain had been at the hospital with Amber for her checkup, and Joanna had already
left for the university lab. Poor Carry had called Zain in tears, feeling abandoned and asking for her mother.
The thought of her crying for me made my heart ache. Heidi had tried her best to comfort her, but it had taken quite a while before
Carry finally calmed down from exhaustion.

As for Dorian, I later learned from Camila that his sudden phone call hadn’t been entirely his own idea. Apparently, Vincent had bribed him with snacks to ask me out, and when I declined, Vincent had playfully threatened to make Dorian give back the treats he’d already
eaten.
These little glimpses into everyone’s lives made me realize how interconnected we all were, despite the distance the divorce proceedings had created between us.
