157 Chapter 157 Visit Whenever You Like
Blanche’s POV 1
The next evening, as I finished my shift, Zain was waiting for me again. This time he wasn’t sitting in his car–he stood in the open
parking lot, leaning against the hood with a cigarette between his fingers.
I spotted him from a distance and headed over, ready to slip into the backseat.
But Zain stepped in front of the rear door. “Sit up front.”
I turned to face him, his features barely visible through the thick smoke. Despite the overwhelming cigarette smell, I caught a whiff of
something else–another woman’s perfume clinging to his clothes.
I knew that scent. It was Joanna’s.
I stepped back, waving away the smoke. “Stay away from me. You smell awful.”
Zain’s brow creased at my words. He sniffed his collar, looking puzzled. “Doesn’t it smell good? How is it awful now?”
I didn’t bother responding.
To him, Joanna’s scent would always be intoxicating. Why waste my energy arguing? The thought only irritated me more.
I refused to budge and climbed into the back seat anyway.
Zain had no choice. With Oswald expecting us, he simply pulled out of the parking lot and drove off.
Throughout the ride, he kept all the windows down, letting the bitter wind whip through the car.
I sat in silence, and when I glanced forward, I noticed two lipsticks and a compact nestled in the center console between the front seats.
Both were high–end brands–the expensive kind only someone with Zain’s wealth could afford.
Obviously Joanna’s.
I stared at them briefly before turning away.
All four windows stayed down for the entire drive. Oakwood had already slipped into early winter, and the nighttime wind didn’t just feel
cold–it cut through my skin like razor blades.
My hair whipped across my face, completely covering my features.
I knew Zain was doing this deliberately, hoping I’d crack or show weakness.
But I gave him nothing,
Only when the car finally stopped did I slowly begin smoothing my hair and straightening my clothes.
Zain caught my eye in the rearview mirror. “Better now? Does it smell good to you?”
I had already tidied myself up. I pushed open the door and stepped out, then stood beside the car, waiting for him to exit.

Once he emerged, I looked directly at him. “Zain, you reek of that perfume. No amount of airing out or washing will get rid of it now.”
With that, I turned and walked toward the hospital.
Zain seemed amused by my comment, raising an eyebrow before catching up to me in just a few quick steps.
When he reached me, he smoothly captured my hand. I tried to pull away, but his grip held firm.
I stopped walking and shot him an irritated look. “Zain, what game are you playing now?”
Zain smiled, leaning closer to whisper, “Grandpa’s in the hospital, and visitors come by constantly. His spies are everywhere. If we don’t
look close, he’ll notice and get angry again.”
Hearing that, I finally stopped struggling, my shoulders sagging slightly.
Whatever. I’ll just endure this and get through it.
Once it’s over, I can finally have some peace.
When we entered the elevator, I shook off Zain’s hand. “We don’t need to pretend in here.”
Zain straightened up and glanced at me. “It’s our turn to stay with Grandpa tonight.”
I blinked in surprise. “You never told me that.”
Zain shrugged. “It just occurred to me. But don’t worry–Desmond will bring our things.”
Before I could respond, the elevator doors opened—and there stood Oswald in his hospital gown, leaning on an elegant cane.
When he saw us, the stern expression on his face immediately transformed into a smile.
“Zain, Blanche,” Oswald called out, joy evident in his voice.
As Zain stepped out of the elevator, he reached back and took my hand again.
With Oswald right there, I didn’t resist—I just let it happen.
Zain led me out of the elevator, and when Oswald saw us together, his smile grew even brighter.
Oswald had been planning to take a walk downstairs, but seeing us arrive, he decided to return to his room instead.
The room was empty of visitors now, though it remained filled with gift baskets and flowers,
Oswald settled into a chair by the bed and gestured for us to sit on the couch,
Once we were all seated, Oswald looked around with a confused expression. “Where’s Carry? Why didn’t you bring her?”
Oswald knew tonight was our turn to stay with him, so he wanted to check on Carry.
Zain answered, “Carry has school tomorrow, so I left her at Blissfield Villa. Heidi’s watching her, Grandpa, so don’t worry.”
Oswald frowned. “That’s not right. Heidi’s just the housekeeper–she’s not her parents, is she? Fine, just for today. Tomorrow, I’ll go to Blissfield Villa and check on her myself.

I remained silent throughout their exchange.
When I heard Oswald say that, I couldn’t help but glance at Zain, curious about his response.
As expected, Zain grew flustered, his voice coming out strained. “Grandpa, if you really want to see Carry, I’ll bring her here tomorrow. You’re still recovering–you shouldn’t leave the hospital yet.”
Oswald might not have caught Zain’s real meaning, but I certainly did.
Zain was concerned about Oswald’s health, sure, but what really terrified him was his secret being exposed.
Oswald’s frown deepened, his voice sharp. “What, am I not allowed to visit Blissfield Villa now?”
Zain maintained his composure. “How about we wait until you’re discharged?”
Oswald’s expression grew even more severe. “So I’m bothering you now?”
Zain explained quickly, “No. I’m just worried about you.”
Oswald had heard enough from Zain.
He turned to me, his voice gentle. “What about you, Blanche? Do you not want me to visit either?”
I showed no panic when Oswald suddenly addressed me. I simply met his gaze steadily.
Just as I was about to answer, I felt a tug on my sleeve.
I knew it was Zain, hoping I’d support him.
I paused to consider, then replied calmly, “Grandpa, your health comes first. If you ever want to visit Blissfield Villa, just let us know and
we’ll arrange it.”
My answer helped Zain for now, but it might create complications later.
After I spoke, Oswald couldn’t really insist on going immediately.
He reluctantly agreed, “Alright, since Blanche said so, I’ll plan a quiet visit another time. But Zain, if you ever mistreat Blanche, remember
-I’ll enforce the family rules.”
Zain managed a smile. “Don’t worry, Grandpa. Visit whenever you like. I promise I’ll treat Blanche right with all my heart.”
Only I could see how difficult it was for Zain to make that promise.
Oswald didn’t press further. He stood up, gripping his cane. “Alright, let’s take a walk.”
I shot Zain a look, and he glared back at me.
Clearly, Zain was furious, thinking I’d said the wrong thing.
But I knew exactly what I was doing–I’d said it all for Oswald’s sake.
If Oswald witnessed Zain’s true nature firsthand, he’d stop playing matchmaker once he discovered we were already divorced.
In the end, Zain and I each took one of Oswald’s arms, supporting him as we left the room.

As soon as we stepped into the hospital’s back garden, we encountered Demetrius in casual clothes.
When he saw me, he froze for a moment.
But when he spoke, his voice was warm. “Blanche?”
That gentle way he said my name made Oswald’s brow furrow, and his gaze grew noticeably less welcoming.
