168 Chapter 168 She Has No Friends Left
Blanche’s POV 1
It was already 2 AM, and I knew there were only two reasons Carry would call me at this hour. either she wasn’t feeling well, or Zain and
Joanna weren’t around.
Tonight, it was the latter. Joanna had been injured, and Zain had taken her to the hospital.
Which meant, this time, Carry had no one to keep her company.
After I laid out the facts, I hung up without caring what Heidi or Carry thought of me.
On the other end, Heidi was still holding the phone, completely stunned, when she heard the beeping sound of the call ending.
In Heidi’s memory, Blanche had always been so good to Zain and Carry, looking after them and fussing over every little thing.
But now, everything had changed.
Heidi understood perfectly why, and she never blamed Blanche for it.
Honestly, with a husband and kid like that, no one would want to stay.
But Heidi was just a servant at Blissfield Villa, so it wasn’t her place to say anything.
Just as Heidi put her phone away, Carry burst into tears again. She sat on the bed, kicking and thrashing around, wailing at the top of her
lungs, “Mean mom! Mean mom! I don’t want her to be my mom anymore!”
Heidi watched Carry and couldn’t help but sigh in exasperation.
Back when Blanche looked after her, Carry had never thrown tantrums like this.
Now she’d grown temperamental, even lashing out at her own mother.
If she spoke like this at home, she would curse people in public.
Just thinking about that possibility, Heidi let out a heavy sigh.
Carry’s cries grew louder, and Heidi was about to comfort her when Lillian walked into the bedroom.
“Heidi, what’s going on? Lillian asked, concern in her voice.
Heidi glanced at Lillian and said softly, ‘Carry had a nightmare.”
Lillian came over and nudged Heidi gently. “Let me handle this. You go get some rest.”
Heidi looked confused. “Huh?”
Lillian bent down, scooped Carry into her arms, then glanced back at Heidi. “Go get some rest. I’m her grandma. Don’t worry, I’ve got
this.

Heidi hesitated, then nodded. It made sense.
Carry clung to Joanna most of the time, and when Joanna wasn’t around, she turned to Lillian.
So letting Lillian handle it was actually a smart move.
Sure enough, once Carry was nestled in Lillian’s arms, her sobbing quieted.
After giving it some thought, Heidi left the bedroom.
Downstairs, she’d barely finished washing her feet when Lillian came downstairs.
“Lillian, how is Carry? Did you get her settled?” Heidi asked anxiously.
Lillian’s face darkened when she heard Heidi call her name.
She corrected her seriously, “Heidi, I call you by name out of respect, but when you call me Lillian, isn’t that a bit disrespectful? I’ll be
Zain’s future mother–in–law. Shouldn’t you show me more respect?”
Heidi was left speechless, not sure what to say.
Zain valued Joanna more than anyone these days. Lillian kind of had a point.
Heidi didn’t feel like arguing with her, so she just asked, “Alright, then what should I call you?”
Lillian thought seriously for a few seconds, then said, “From now on, call me Mrs. Griselda.”
Heidi was stunned. She felt Lillian was really pushing it, but as a servant, she could only nod. “Okay.”
Besides, with Zain always siding with Lillian, Heidi knew better than to go against her.
Heidi was about to let it go, but then she suddenly thought of Carry and asked anxiously, “Mrs. Griselda, how’s Carry now?”
Lillian’s expression softened at the title. “She just needs some soothing”
Heidi doubted that. “Is that so?”
Come to think of it, Carry had been pretty hard to comfort lately, but Lillian could calm her down in no time.
Then again, Carry was always fond of Joanna and Lillian.
Thinking all that over, Heidi finally wished Lillian good night.
The next morning, my alarm had just gone silent when my phone rang again.
I thought about stealing another ten minutes of sleep, but the call jolted me wide awake.
Without even checking the screen, I answered.
On the other end, Zain’s voice came through, hoarse and tired. “Can you take Carry to school today?”
I instantly snapped awake,

I figured Zain must be with Joanna right now, and without thinking, I blurted out, “I’ve got teaching ward rounds today. I really don’t
have time to take Carry.”
The excuse was true, but my reluctance was just as real.
“I won’t be able to pick her up for the next few days,” Zain continued. “Could you stay at Blissfield Villa and look after her?”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his request. “Busy? Do you mean overtime? Or is your grandfather sick again?”
Zain didn’t hide anything. He said straight up, “Joanna’s in the hospital. She’s not doing too well, and I need to stick around and take care
of her.”
I let out a cold, mocking laugh. “So for her, you’re gonna abandon Carry?”
Zain tried to explain, “I’m not abandoning Carry. I just…can’t be in two places at once.”
My anger flared. I hissed, “Zain, it’s all right here, isn’t it? What more is there to say? Joanna’s always first with you, isn’t she?”
When Zain tried to explain further, I cut him off. I snapped, “If you’ve got something to say, go tell Carry. Don’t waste your breath on me.
I’m done listening.”
Then I hung up.
After hanging up on Zain, I was in a foul mood all day.
I kept telling myself I didn’t care about Carry anymore, but deep down, I couldn’t let it go. Carry was my daughter, someone I’d brought
into this world.
Now that Zain and Joanna weren’t around, what was Carry going to do?
That question haunted me all day long.
I got off work in the evening, and before I knew it, I was already driving toward the kindergarten.
By then, the place was almost empty, and the kids were pretty much all gone.
I didn’t see Carry anywhere, so I walked up to the security guard out front. “Excuse me, has someone already picked up Carry Jacob?”
The guard looked me up and down, his eyes full of suspicion.
I almost said I was Carry’s mother, but stopped myself.
Carry had been at this kindergarten for ages, but not a single teacher or guard at the school even knew who I was.
A pang of sadness hit me, and I was about to leave when Camila’s teacher, Yoli Luther, spotted me. “Blanche?” she called, surprised.
I turned and smiled at Yoli. “Yeah, it’s me.”
Yoli walked over and asked, “Are you here to pick up Camila?”
I shook my head. “Did anyone pick up Carry?”
Yoli blinked in surprise, frowning a little. “Carry? She didn’t show up at school today.”

I was taken aback for a moment, then felt a wave of anxiety.
I worried that maybe Carry hadn’t come to school simply because no one was there to bring her.
Kindergarten might not be a big deal, but I valued discipline. I didn’t want Carry to pick up any bad habits.
I couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Just as I was about to leave, Yoli called out again, “Blanche!”
I turned back, a little puzzled, and asked, “Yes?”
Yoli smiled. “Camila is such a good kid, hardworking, kind, and loved by all her classmates. She’s a little angel. She brightens up the whole
kindergarten.”
My heart warmed at those words. I thanked Yoli for the compliment.
But then, I asked casually, “And what about Carry? Is she doing okay?”
Yoli frowned as soon as she heard Carry’s name.
After thinking for a moment, she replied, “Honestly, it might be her family situation. She’s grown bossy, often spits at other children.
We’ve talked to her over and over, but she never listens. She’s pretty much got no friends left here now.”
