170 Chapter 170 For The Sake Of Joanna
170 Chapter 170 For The Sake Of Joanna
Blanche’s POV
Lillian’s fury erupted as she shoved Heidi Irvin with surprising force. “Heidi, what kind of mother is she? She hauled Carry upstairs just to
strike her! If she harms Carry, Joanna will be crushed. Move aside. I’m checking on my granddaughter.”
Heidi’s grip tightened, refusing to release her hold.
“Mrs. Griselda, Mrs. Jacob has a gentle nature. She’d never raise a hand to Carry. Please don’t fret,” Heidi insisted.
Lillian fought to break free from Heidi’s grasp, but her efforts proved futile, and she eventually surrendered.
Heidi remained vigilant, trailing Lillian’s every move to prevent any attempt to slip upstairs and create chaos.
Upstairs, Carry had exhausted herself with tears and slumped against the couch.
Before long, sleep claimed her.
My heart twisted watching her small form.
Once Carry’s breathing found its rhythm, I lifted her gently and carried her to bed, pulling the covers up to her chin.
I settled beside her, keeping vigil while wrestling with thoughts of how to reach my daughter.
Time seemed suspended until Zain’s deep voice drifted through the door. “Blanche, can you come out here?”
I initially dismissed it as my imagination, but his second call prompted me to rise silently and slip out, taking care not to disturb Carry. I
guided him to the room we’d once called ours.
When I switched on the light, I noticed the vanity displayed an array of skincare bottles and cosmetics in perfect order.
Soft blue sheets covered the bed, and a subtle, inviting scent hung in the air.
Zain shifted uncomfortably. He faced me and said, “I’m considering bringing Carry to the hospital.”
The late hour meant any hospital visit would stretch past dawn.
I couldn’t fathom his reasoning, but my refusal came instantly. “It’s far too late. Whatever this is about can wait until morning.”
Zain replied, “Joanna claims she’s missing Carry and needs to see her immediately.”
Irritation flared within me. “Carry just dozed off, and it’s late in the evening.”
Noticing my reaction, Zain attempted justification. “I understand, but I’ll bring her back quickly.”
My temper ignited as I snapped back. “Zain, does Joanna truly matter that much to you? Enough to jeopardize Carry’s wellbeing for her
sake?”
Zain paused briefly before explaining, “Joanna sustained a concussion. Her doctor confirms she’s still healing. She keeps saying she can’t
rest, and insists that seeing Carry will help her sleep. That’s my reasoning for considering this.”

I released a bitter laugh. “A concussion isn’t fatal. If she genuinely misses Carry so desperately, she can visit here herself.”
Recognizing my stubborn stance, Zain abandoned the argument. He pivoted and headed for the exit.
I anticipated his next move and seized his arm. “Zain, I won’t allow you to drag Carry to that hospital tonight. If you try, I promise I’ll-”
Zain had reached his limit, and my warning pushed his rage past the breaking point.
He whirled around and, acting on pure instinct, thrust me aside. “Move!”
The force sent me stumbling backward.
I crashed to the floor, my forehead connecting with brutal impact.
My vision clouded, bright spots dancing across my sight.
Zain stood frozen, staring at his own hand.
His emotions seemed to have overwhelmed him; he appeared not to have realized his strength.
I’d been thrown quite a distance; his push had carried tremendous force.
Watching me hit the ground snapped Zain from his stupor, and he dropped to his knees to assist me, concern flooding his voice. “Are you
hurt?”
I accepted his help rising, though my vision remained unsteady.
Zain’s features appeared distorted and kept shifting before my eyes.
I remained silent, and Zain interpreted this as anger. He rushed to apologize, his tone gentle. “I’m sorry, that wasn’t intentional.”
His words reached me as if from a great distance.
The dizziness required time to fade.
Zain’s face gradually sharpened back into focus.
Realizing he still supported me, I knocked his hand away, my voice cutting like ice. “Zain, continue this path and you’ll end up harming
Carry:
I pulled myself upright from the floor. I’d finished arguing with Zain.
I brushed past him and exited the bedroom.
Zain’s POV
I observed her departure in silence.
I ignited a cigarette, then reconsidered and moved to the hallway to smoke.
Downstairs, Blanche had vanished from my sight.

After extinguishing my cigarette, I headed to Carry’s room.
I positioned myself beside her bed, studying her for an extended period. Eventually, I gently roused her from sleep.
1
Carry’s eyes fluttered open, and spotting me brought an instant smile. “Dad, you’re home!”
I lifted her up, tousling her hair with a remorseful grin. “Carry, what do you say I take you to visit Miss Joanna?”
Carry bobbed her head enthusiastically. “Yes! I’ve been so concerned about Miss Joanna. I’ve wanted to see her, but Heidi refused to let
me.”
I wavered, then inquired, “What if your mother objects to you going?”
Carry reflected on Blanche’s recent treatment of her, and resentment surged. “Dad, that’s my choice. I can visit anyone I please. It’s none
of Mom’s concern. She doesn’t care about me anyway. She won’t even allow me to eat shrimp.”
I felt my chest tighten hearing my daughter’s words, but with Joanna still expecting us, I steeled myself and lifted Carry into my arms.
After dressing her, I carried her outside.
Our departure occurred very late at night.
We reached the hospital in the early hours.
When Carry opened the hospital room door, Joanna was viewing videos on her device.
At the sound, she quickly set it down. Her expression brightened upon seeing Carry. She extended her arms and said, “Carry, come here,
darling.”
Carry rushed forward and launched herself into Joanna’s embrace.
Joanna’s head bore gauze wrappings, her hospital gown loose on her diminished frame.
Carry embraced her fiercely, tears welling in her eyes.
“Miss Joanna, I missed you terribly. I couldn’t rest at all without you,” Carry declared.
Joanna returned Carry’s hug, burying her face in the child’s hair. “I missed you as well, darling. I couldn’t sleep either without you.”
1 observed their reunion, listening to their expressions of mutual longing, and emotion constricted my throat.
No one tracked how long they conversed before I finally announced, “Carry, we need to head home.”
Carry resisted leaving. She shook her head firmly. “No, I want to remain here with Miss Joanna.”
I prepared to insist, but Joanna interrupted. “Zain, allow her to stay. Just for tonight.”
Hearing Joanna’s request, I hesitated momentarily, then eventually agreed. “Very well, just for tonight.”
