191 Chapter 191 The Man You Lean

On

Blanche’s POV

After Vincent’s wild performance, I was so wiped out that fighting with him felt impossible.

When Vincent declared himself my lover, exhaustion hit me too hard to even bother correcting himI just let it go, too drained to care anymore.

The fever still burned through me, leaving me weak and completely spent.

When fatigue finally took over, I drifted back into sleep.

But when my eyes fluttered open again, Amber’s face came into focus.

She’d scrubbed off all her makeup, and while she didn’t have that knockout glamour she usually wore, her perfect skin and natural beauty were still

mesmerizing.

Seeing Amber made me think of Carry immediately.

My eyes welled up as I whispered, Amber, how’s Carry doing?

Amber pulled the blanket up around me, her touch gentle. Mr. Aarav went to check on hershe’s stable now, so don’t stress about it.

Relief washed over me when I heard that.

I nodded slowly. Okay, good.”

Amber dabbed the sweat from my forehead with a tissue, her voice soothing. Vincent went home already. I’m staying the night with you.”

My mind wandered to Vincent for a moment.

But seriously, he was just some spoiled rich boy. Like he’d actually do something that embarrassing for any

guy.

Warming my bed? Doing my laundry?

I knew better than to believe those ridiculous promises.

After downing the fever medication, I was sweating

buckets, my skin sticky and damp. I burrowed deeper under the covers, hoping that sweating it out would get me back to normal by morning.

As I started to fade, Amber settled in the chair beside me, casually flipping through magazines, quietly staying with me through the long night.

Deep in the night, the cold shocked me awake.

My eyes snapped open and I shivered instinctively.

Then a soft voice reached my ears. “Cold?

It was Vincent.

For a split second, I figured I must be hallucinating- but when I turned my head, Vincent’s face was actually there, looking right at me.

I blinked, confused. Why did you come back?

Vincent pulled the covers up around me with that playful smile of his. I’m your lover, right? Wherever you are is where I belong.”

My frown deepenedclearly irritated.

Seeing my reaction, Vincent quickly jumped to explain.

I forgot to mention to Amber that I was just going home for a shower. I never said I wasn’t coming back. She had Camila to deal with anyway, so I sent her home. You’reyou’re not pissed at me, are you?

I met his anxious eyes and felt a stab of guilt despite myself. My voice softened. Vincent, thank you.

Vincent’s face lit up immediately. Noticing I was shivering, he teased, Want me to get in there and warm you up?

He was just playing his part as my socalled lover.

But the second I heard that, my face went bright red. I stammered, flustered, No, I’m fine.

When I turned him down, Vincent didn’t push it. Alright, get some rest. I’ll just crash here beside your bed. If you get cold, just say the word and I’ll be right there.

I didn’t respond. I just stared at him, speechless.

Strangely enough, even after I rejected him, Vincent seemed pretty pleased with himself.

He stretched out beside the bed, smiled to himself a

few times, then closed his eyes.

But Vincent was tall, and cramped up next to the hospital bed with his long legs folded awkwardly, there was no way he could actually rest comfortably.

I’d already dozed off twice, but now sleep was impossible.

I looked over at Vincent, his gorgeous face turned toward me.

I could really appreciate his looks, but right now his

forehead was creased with discomfort.

Seeing how uncomfortable he was, I gently touched his shoulder and whispered his name. Vincent.

Vincent’s eyes opened, still drowsy, his voice rough with sleep. Baby, what’s wrong?

I scooted over, patting the empty space beside me. I’m getting cold. Come up here and sleep with me.”

The truth was I just couldn’t stand watching Vincent be so uncomfortable, but when the words came out, it sounded like I needed him for my own sake.

Without missing a beat, Vincent slipped into bed, wrapping his arms around me from behind and tucking his chin against my shoulder.

He smelled fresh and clean from his shower, while I was painfully aware of the sour, sweaty smell clinging

to me.

After running a fever for hours without being able to wash up, I knew exactly how bad I must smell.

But Vincent didn’t seem to care at allinstead, he just pulled me closer, holding me tighter like nothing else mattered.

He’d been drowsy before, but now Vincent was completely alert.

I was wide awake too. Vincent slid his left arm under my neck as a pillow, while his right arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me so my entire back was pressed against his chest.

Our body heat merged, and even with just the thin fabric of his shirt between us, I could swear Vincent’s skin was scorching hot.

In the quiet of the room, neither of us said anything.

I had no clue how long I’d been lying there, still completely awake.

Vincent was just as restless.

He brought his mouth to my ear, nibbling the tip as he whispered, Are you thinking about Carry?

I flinched slightly at the ticklish sensation on my ear, pulling back just a little before answering quietly, No, I’m not worried about anyone.”

Vincent saw right through me, so he said gently, If you really want to see Carry, let’s go. I’ll come with you.

After hesitating for a moment, I finally nodded. Yeah.

Once we’d pulled ourselves together, we headed toward the pediatric ward.

When we reached the pediatric ward, I spotted Zain from a distance, his head resting heavily on Joanna’s shoulder, looking completely exhausted.

I stopped automatically, and Vincent stopped with me, both of us just standing there.

I didn’t approach Zain and JoannaI went straight to the doctor’s office instead, not wasting any time.

I still don’t know what’s really going on with Carry, I thought, my stomach in knots. ‘Only when the doctor tells me directly that Carry’s okay can I finally relax.

Once I got into the office, the doctor on duty filled me in on Carry’s condition.

Since I was a doctor myself, I understood exactly what

she meant.

But it wasn’t until I heard it straight from the doctor that my anxiety finally eased.

As I left the office, I couldn’t help but glance at Zain again.

He was still leaning on Joanna’s shoulder, looking completely worn out.

They were facing away from me, their bodies close together, looking intimate and tender.

Vincent noticed how distressed I was, so he stepped forward and, without asking permission, swept me up into his arms.

Looking down at me, he said softly, Baby, if you’ll let me, I’d love to be the man you lean on, too.

I met his gaze but stayed silent.

As Vincent carried me away, I caught a glimpse of movement in my peripheral vision. Joanna had turned to look in our direction, her expression unreadable as she watched us leave. Something about the way she observed us made me wonder if she’d overheard Vincent’s words. There was a thoughtful look in her eyes, almost as if she was piecing something together, but I couldn’t be sure what she was thinking. The moment passed quickly as Vincent continued walking, taking us further away from the intimate scene between Zain and Joanna.
