02 Chapter 202 Pride In His Eyes
Blanche’s POVO
When Zain mentioned Oswald had gone to Blissfield Villa, tension coiled in my chest.
I paused, then sighed, “I know.”
Glancing at Demetrius by the taxi, I said, “Head home first. Dinner’s on me next time.”
His smile barely touched his eyes as he nodded. “I’ll be waiting.”
I flashed him a quick grin before sliding into Zain’s car.
We reached Blissfield Villa after eight.
Oswald sat on the sofa, fingers wrapped around his signature dragon–headed cane. Even in casual clothes, authority radiated from him like heat.
His mouth curved into a rare smile when he spotted Zain and me entering together.
But as we got closer, his expression soured. “So late— where have you two been?”

“Grandpa, I visited my parents,” I replied evenly.
His face creased with worry. “Carry still looks so weak. You should spend more time with her.”
I nodded. “Alright.”
That afternoon, Carry and I had both left the hospital.
I didn’t feel like explaining, and honestly, Oswald’s opinion meant nothing to me.
In twenty days, the Jacob family would be history
anyway.
So whatever Oswald wanted, I’d just agree and move
My compliance seemed to satisfy him, and his smile
returned.
Lillian lounged by the coffee table, munching fruit and watching TV.
She’d been napping when Oswald arrived and had just woken up.
She’d never met Oswald before and wasn’t paying
attention to our conversation.
But Oswald noticed everything.

Seeing Lillian’s simple clothes, he immediately pegged her as hired help.
He sneered. “What’s this? Do the staff at Blissfield Villa
think they’re equals with the Jacob family now?”
His disdain was crystal clear, aimed straight at Lillian.
When Lillian heard him, she turned around. Taking in Oswald’s expensive clothes and commanding
presence, anxiety flickered across her face.
She also saw Zain and me standing there obediently. Only a Jacob family elder could make us both act like that.
Given his age, this had to be Zain’s grandfather— Oswald, the family patriarch.
Recognition brought fear to her eyes.
Before she could speak, I cut in sharply: “Aunt Lillian, have you forgotten Blissfield Villa’s rules?”
Irritation flashed across Lillian’s face at my words, but with Oswald watching, she swallowed it.
She rose from the sofa and walked over respectfully, lowering her voice. “What would you like to eat, Blanche? I’ll prepare it.”

I turned toward her with a soft, innocent smile. After a
pause, I said, “Aunt Lillian, I’d like Beef Wellington.”
My smile was sweet and harmless, not a trace of hostility showing.
Lillian knew I was making things difficult on purpose, but she could only nod. “I’ll make it right now.”
She headed for the kitchen.
I was absolutely doing this deliberately–using Oswald’s presence as cover to throw my weight around.
But unexpectedly, after Lillian disappeared, Oswald turned to me. “Blanche, isn’t it rather late to keep the staff busy?”
I put on an innocent look. “Who, me? Aunt Lillian genuinely loves cooking all kinds of dishes. Even late at night, she enjoys it.”
Oswald let it slide, but I suddenly acted like something occurred to me. Turning eagerly to Zain, I said, “Oh! Doesn’t Grandpa love Beef Bourguignon? Since Aunt Lillian’s cooking anyway, why not have her make some for you too, Grandpa?”

I’d directed this at Zain deliberately, and sure enough, his face darkened with annoyance.
Oswald waved dismissively. “It’s late–no more food. Heavy meals at night are hard on the stomach.”
Zain shot me a relaxed grin. “Grandpa’s right. Why not follow his example? No need for greasy midnight
snacks.”
I could tell Zain was protecting Lillian, but I wouldn’t back down. “I’m hungry though. And weren’t you the one who told me not to diet?”
Seeing I was being stubborn on purpose, Zain’s
expression darkened. “Pick something else then. Skip the Beef Wellington.”
But I doubled down, pouting. “Nope. I want Beef Wellington.”
As tension built between Zain and me, Oswald finally intervened. “Enough. If Blanche wants Beef
Wellington, let her have it–it’s no big deal.”
With Oswald’s word being final, Zain couldn’t argue further and dropped it.
Just then, a soft voice called from the doorway. “Zain?”

Joanna had returned home.
As she entered, her eyes immediately found Oswald in the hall.
Though they’d never met, she recognized him instantly.
Oswald glanced at Joanna, then asked Zain, “Who’s
this?”
When the question came, I turned my attention to Zain, curious how he’d answer.
All eyes focused on him.
Zain remained calm, meeting his grandfather’s gaze.
“This is Carry’s tutor.”
Oswald frowned. “Carry’s so young–why does she
need a tutor?”
“Carry spends too much time on her tablet, so I hired someone to teach her other things,” Zain explained.
Before Oswald could respond, Joanna bowed deeply. “Hello, Grandpa.”
“Hello,” Oswald replied with a gentle nod.
Seeing his smile, Joanna’s nervousness eased.

“Grandpa, may I go upstairs to keep Carry company?” she asked softly.
He nodded. “Go ahead.”
Joanna smiled again. “Alright, Grandpa. You should rest too. Goodnight.”
Throughout the entire exchange, she never once glanced my way–completely ignoring my existence.
After Joanna went upstairs, Oswald turned to Zain and me. “That girl’s lovely–cheerful, lively, wonderful personality. She’s perfect as Carry’s tutor.”
I stayed silent.
Zain just smiled faintly. “Yeah, she’s always had a great personality.”
As he spoke, his gaze drifted upstairs in Joanna’s direction.
In that moment, his eyes practically glowed with pride.
