207 Chapter 207 Disturbing The
Peace
Blanche’s POVO
Amara and I kept talking until way past 1 a.m., finally deciding we should try to get some rest.
Right as we were about to fall asleep, a loudspeaker crackled to life downstairs, destroying the quiet night.
Someone bellowed through the speaker twice, the sound bouncing off the buildings.
That’s when it hit me–I started recognizing the voice behind that damn loudspeaker.
Amara figured it out before I did, though.
One shout was all it took for Amara to know it was
Marquis.
The neighborhood had been dead silent at this hour until Marquis’s stunt broke the peace–windows lit up in every apartment building around us.
Some fed–up residents started shouting from their windows: “Have you lost your mind? What kind of
lunatic screams like that in the middle of the night?”
More voices joined in: “Hey! If you’re gonna go crazy, at least do it during the day!”
Marquis ignored every single one of them. He’d worked too hard tracking down Amara’s address to waste this chance at winning her back.

He kept yelling into that loudspeaker, not giving a damn about anyone else: “Amara, I messed up big time. Everything was my fault. Please, just forgive me.”
When I heard Marquis’s apology, Amara didn’t look moved at all–if anything, she looked completely disgusted. His words just made her more sick to her
stomach.
Marquis continued his pathetic performance from below: “Baby, please forgive me! I promise I’ll never hurt you again. If you can hear this, just come down and see me for one minute–that’s all I need, just to see you once!”
Amara saw right through Marquis’s manipulation. He was putting on this pitiful act to trick her into coming downstairs–she’d seen this sorry routine before.
She knew the second she actually went down there
and they were alone, he’d drop the fake remorse and show his real face like he always did.
That’s why Amara felt nothing but disgust toward Marquis—well, maybe a tiny stab of pain, but mostly just revulsion.
Marquis’s midnight circus was driving the entire neighborhood insane. Amara didn’t need to show her face—people were already screaming at him from upstairs windows, some even hurling rotten vegetables and lettuce scraps down at him.
Despite all the chaos, Marquis refused to quit. He just kept shouting: “Amara, I know you still have feelings for me, so please, let’s stop torturing ourselves. Come down and meet me–can we just talk privately?”
Suddenly, Amara threw back her covers and jumped out of bed.
Seeing her stand up, I called out nervously, “Amara, what are you doing?”
Amara looked at my panicked expression and actually laughed. “What? You think I’m really going down to see him?”
I just stared at her without saying anything.
Amara walked to the coffee table, grabbed her phone, and turned back to me. “Relax, I’m not going to see
him. I’m calling the police.”
She dialed and calmly explained the entire situation to the officer. They promised to send someone right
away.
Less than ten minutes later, cops arrived at the complex.
They dragged Marquis away, slapping him with a disturbing the peace charge.
After all the drama Marquis caused, neither Amara nor I could fall asleep.
Since we were both wide awake anyway, we decided to
keep chatting.
We talked and talked, and before we knew it, it was already past 2 a.m.
The peaceful night got shattered again when my phone suddenly rang, making both of us jump.
I checked the screen and saw Zain calling. I hesitated, not sure if I wanted to deal with him at this hour.
‘Seriously? Why is he calling me this late?‘ The whole thing struck me as really weird, and I couldn’t help wondering what was up.
But curiosity got the better of me, so I answered.
I picked up but didn’t say anything. After a few seconds, Zain finally spoke: “Are you at Blissfield Villa?”
I figured he couldn’t be there himself if he was asking me that.
I just told him the truth: “No, I’m not.”
Zain barely reacted to my answer, just pressed on: “Carry woke up crying in the middle of the night. Can you come back and comfort her?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “So you called me at this hour just for that?”
Zain replied: “You’re Carry’s mother. Who else would I call?”
A
I shot back: “And you? Aren’t you her father? Why don’t you calm her down yourself?”
Zain just said: “I’m busy. If I wasn’t, do you think I’d be calling you in the middle of the night?”
I let out a bitter laugh. “What about Joanna? I thought Carry loved Miss Joanna the most?”
Zain paused before saying: “She’s busy too.”
“Oh, so you’re both ‘busy‘? What is it this time–too busy screwing each other’s brains out?” I screamed into the phone, my rage finally exploding.
I unleashed everything I’d been bottling up, yelling directly at Zain on the other end.
Once I’d gotten it all out, I didn’t hesitate–I hung up on him, slamming my phone down with ice–cold finality.
After hanging up, I found myself trembling with fury. Amara saw how upset I was, and her heart went out to
Amara came over and wrapped me in a hug, concern all over her face. “Don’t let him get to you like this. He’s not worth it.”
I nodded slightly. “Yeah.”
It was almost 3 a.m. when we finally crashed and called it a night.

Amara fell asleep instantly, but I just couldn’t drift off. I found myself aimlessly scrolling through my phone.
I opened WhatsApp and while browsing through my chats, accidentally tapped into my conversation with
Vincent.
Just as I was about to exit, I noticed “typing…” appear on the screen.
I blinked, thinking I might be hallucinating.
I rubbed my eyes and looked again, but now it was
gone.
It was so late. I thought to myself, ‘I must be seeing things. I really need to get some sleep.‘
Zain’s POV
Joanna and I sat around a round table with five or six others–all scholarly types wearing glasses.
We’d been discussing the PhD research project for nearly three hours, but we still weren’t making any
progress.
Joanna looked pretty defeated. “Zain, maybe I’m just
not cut out for PhD work.”
I stayed quiet, but deep down, I knew there was still one person we could ask for help.
That person was Demetrius Jake.
After a moment, I stood up. “It’s getting late. Let’s wrap this up.”
Hearing that, everyone finally started to unwind- they’d all been incredibly tense.
Like a weight had been lifted, the group gathered their stuff and rushed out, no one sticking around.
Once everyone had gone, Joanna finally turned to me and sighed. “Zain, I think I’ll just go withdraw from
school tomorrow.”
I glanced at her, the gentlest smile crossing my lips. “Don’t give up yet. There’s still someone else we can
ask.”
Joanna didn’t need to ask–she knew immediately that I was talking about Demetrius.
“But Demetrius seems kind of prejudiced against me,’ Joanna murmured, worry clear in her voice.

I knew Joanna had already approached Demetrius for help, but he just hadn’t been willing to assist.
Before, I never really bothered taking Demetrius seriously.
But now, with things getting critical, I had to start paying attention to him.
I just brushed off Joanna’s concerns with a gentle smile. “You just focus on your research,” I said softly. “Leave everything else to me.”
