291 Chapter 291 Sweetheart Lets
Go Home
Blanche’s POV
After everyone got their cake, Nicholas shot me a look, then got up and asked to swap seats with the person to my right.
Zain sat on my left.
I was a little confused by Nicholas’s actions.
As soon as he sat down, Nicholas leaned in close and whispered to me, “Blanche, where’s Amara? What’s she been doing lately? Looks like she hasn’t updated her
food videos in a while.”
I was a bit bewildered when Nicholas suddenly mentioned Amara.
Zain, who’d been watching Nicholas closely, frowned and gave him a sharp look.
Noticing Zain’s tense face, Nicholas quickly grinned and tried to smooth things over, “Oh yeah, Zain—

Blanche’s best friend, Amara Jerry, Miss Jerry. She’s the
girl I told you about–the one I’ve got a crush on.”
Zain couldn’t help but feel a jolt of surprise at how straightforward Nicholas was being.
I immediately turned to Zain, confusion flickering in
my eyes.
Noticing how everyone at the table seemed so tense, Nicholas blinked and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Zain glanced at me, then turned to Nicholas and said, “You two aren’t right for each other.”
That alone made it clear where Zain stood.
I felt like a ton of bricks had just landed on my chest.
He’s just being protective of his friend, I reminded myself.
But even so, he feels so cold and heartless, I couldn’t help thinking.
Nicholas, still clueless about the tension, just flashed Zain a carefree grin and said, “Zain, I don’t see what’s so incompatible about us. Sure, I’m a businessman and

Amara’s just a small–time influencer, but I really like her–especially when she’s mouthing off. She’s got this cool vibe; I love how blunt she is, how she never beats
around the bush.”
Zain’s expression was stone–cold as he stood up and said to Nicholas, “Come with me for a minute. I need to talk to you.”
The tissue on his injured hand was already stuck fast
to his skin.
But he didn’t pay any attention to it, just kept his face serious as he gestured for Nicholas to come with him.
Nicholas was confused, but he got up and followed Zain out of the private room.
After the two of them left the private room, I kept my head down, my eyes stinging with unshed tears.
In that moment, a sour ache filled my heart- something I couldn’t even put into words.
Not just for myself, but for Amara too.
All these years with Zain, I’d always thought Nicholas was genuinely a good guy. He never got mixed up in

messy relationships, and he never treated me badly the way Drew or Zain sometimes did.
At least with him, I knew exactly who I was dealing
with.
If Amara actually liked him, maybe the two of them might really have a shot at something together.
But honestly, I had no idea if Amara could ever step out from under the shadow Marquis Landon left
behind.
Before long, Zain and Nicholas returned.
Nicholas looked like he’d just been sucker–punched- gone was that glimmer in his eyes when he was talking
about Amara.
I suddenly felt my heart drop.
A few minutes later, Nicholas suddenly got up and called out, “Alright guys, let’s wrap things up for tonight. Everybody head out–let’s hang out again
soon!”
With Nicholas saying that, nobody tried to hang back.

Soon enough, the private room was mostly empty as people started heading out.
At the end of it all, Zain glanced at me and murmured, “Let’s go home.”
My chest felt tight as I looked over at Nicholas, my nod barely noticeable. “Yeah,” I replied softly.
Zain gently took my hand and pulled me to my feet.
Turning back to Nicholas, Zain lowered his voice, “Nicholas, you should go too.”
Nicholas nodded, answering in barely more than a whisper.
Zain could tell Nicholas was going to need some time to really wrap his head around what happened with Amara.
So, he just grabbed my hand and walked me out of the
room.
Once we stepped out of the private room, Zain saw my absent–minded look and turned to ask, “Are you blaming me?”

I glanced back at him, confusion all over my face.
“Blame you? For being unfeeling? But isn’t that just the way you’ve always been?”
Zain felt bitter at my words, but could only sigh and explain, “The reason I told Nicholas was because I wanted him to know everything. If, after
understanding it all, he still chooses to care about Amara, then I won’t try to stop him. But honestly, there are things that just shouldn’t be kept from
someone.”
I averted my gaze and said nothing.
I honestly didn’t know what to say–I didn’t want to comment on whether he was right or wrong.
Because the truth was, I wasn’t even sure in my own heart if Zain was right or not.
Zain squeezed my hand and said, “Let’s give Nicholas some time to figure things out.”
I just murmured an “okay” and started heading for the restaurant exit.
Zain hurried to catch up, and the two of us walked

side by side through the revolving doors.
As soon as we stepped out of the restaurant, I looked up and saw Vincent coming up the steps with a girl by his side.
I knew her–it was Norah.
Vincent and Norah noticed Zain and me, too.
Zain glanced down the steps, then suddenly squeezed my hand even harder.
No one could miss how possessive he looked–making it crystal clear to everyone that I was his.
Vincent’s face turned stormy the moment he saw Zain holding my hand.
But right at that moment, Norah boldly closed the distance and hooked her arm through Vincent’s.
Vincent noticed Norah getting cozy and shot her a glance, then looked down and pulled his arm out of her grip.
He gave Norah a sly smirk, locking eyes with her gorgeous face as he drawled, “You better keep your

hands off me, or my Sweetheart’s gonna get jealous. She’s crazy petty like that.”
Vincent said it loud and clear–he obviously wanted Zain and me to catch every word.
Norah’s face went scarlet–Vincent had just shot her down in front of everyone, and the sting of embarrassment was impossible to hide.
Vincent didn’t soften one bit, staring her down as he said, “You’re just my secretary, so don’t get any funny ideas. Stick to your lane, or I won’t show you or Mr. Tim any mercy.”
Honestly, Vincent outranked the Tim family by a mile.
Whether he felt generous or not, it all depended on his mood–if he was happy, he’d play nice; if not, he wouldn’t spare them a second glance.
Norah looked at Vincent, shaken by that cold, ruthless glint in his eyes. Her hands trembled, and suddenly she didn’t dare say a single thing back.
But then Vincent just flashed a lazy grin and teased, “Getting cold feet now?”

Norah shook her head, squaring her shoulders and meeting his eyes. “Nope, I’m not scared of you.”
She wasn’t afraid–not because she was fearless, but simply because she liked him.
Vincent didn’t even bother with Norah anymore–he turned away and zeroed in on Zain and me, who were still lingering by the restaurant entrance.
His eyes were deep and shadowy, like an abyss you couldn’t help but get lost in.
Finally, his gaze landed on Zain’s hand—the one still holding onto mine.
If looks could kill, Zain’s hand would have been full of
holes by now.
Norah followed Vincent’s gaze and found herself staring straight at me.
In that moment, a surge of jealousy and longing swept through Norah–feelings she couldn’t even name.
I was attractive, sure, with regular features, but I just didn’t have the same delicate refinement Norah prided herself on.

No matter how she sized it up, Norah believed she
came out on top.
Yet, Vincent’s heart belonged to someone else—and
that someone was never her.
She’d spent years at Vincent’s side, but all it took was me showing up once to overshadow her completely.
I felt Vincent’s stare boring into me–it was like he was silently warning, ‘Better break free, or I’ll take matters into my own hands.‘
So I gave it a couple of tries, tugging at my hand.
But Zain just gripped tighter–no matter how I struggled, I couldn’t pry my hand free.
In the end, I gave up.
Zain turned to me, his smile deep and unreadable. He kept his voice low, but it was still loud enough for
Vincent and Norah down on the steps to catch every word.
“Sweetheart, let’s go home,” he said.
