31 Chapter 31 Messing With Zain Wife
Blanche’s POV 1
Demetrius wrapped up his shift ahead of schedule, showing up at pediatric surgery before noon to wait for me.
I’d just processed the admission for a young boy with severe burns. After handling the paperwork and writing up his orders, I finally got
a chance to scrub up and ditch my white coat.
Demetrius hung around patiently, chatting with whatever nurses wandered over to him.
By the time we made it out of the hospital, the clock read well past noon.
Demetrius drove me to this high–end Chinese place downtown.
We got a window table with a view of Oakwood’s bustling center.
Remembering what I liked, Demetrius placed our order and poured me some hot water.
“What’s got your attention?” he asked.
I turned away without giving him an answer.
“Oakwood Hospital’s not exactly prestigious. You’re selling yourself short here.”
With Demetrius’s credentials, any hospital would roll out the red carpet. But he’d picked mine.
I wasn’t an idiot–I could connect the dots.
Demetrius’s lips curved upward. “Exactly because I’m skilled, I should work where I’m most needed.”
Vague but undeniably sound reasoning.
“But here,” Demetrius cut in, his eyes finding mine, “the need feels… more personal.”
His stare was so piercing that my breath caught.
Our food arriving shattered the moment. Once the server disappeared, Demetrius motioned toward the dishes. “Let’s eat.”
Everything looked and tasted incredible.
While serving me a portion, Demetrius asked casually, “Feel like attending a lecture this weekend?”
I froze mid–bite. “Who’s speaking?”
“My mentor.”
My chopsticks stopped halfway to my mouth. “I’m not qualified for that.”
Demetrius’s eyes sparkled. “I’m your ticket in.”
Understanding dawned. “Ah.”

His doctoral supervisor was Professor Reese–a medical icon whose research had revolutionized entire fields.
Half the country’s elite surgeons had studied under him.
I’d once fantasized about being one of them.
Then marriage grounded my ambitions. That remained one of my deepest regrets.
At my age, starting over academically felt hopeless. By the time I’d complete another residency, I’d be approaching middle age.
But attending one of Reese’s lectures? Who could refuse that?
My phone vibrated later. Camila’s name lit up the screen. “Sweetheart?”
“Auntie, Carry got into trouble at school today.”
My stomach dropped. “What kind of trouble?”
“Some kid knocked over her water bottle. She spit at him and said she’d tell her daddy.”
“Did they contact her parents?”
“Some attractive woman showed up. Not sure what she said, but she bolted pretty fast.”
That had to be Joanna.
My teeth ground together. “Have you eaten yet, sweetie?”
“Yep! Have you?”
“Mhm, eating right now.”
“Is Auntie upset?”
I hesitated. “Just exhausted.”
The dishonesty left a sour taste. Carry was my daughter in everything but blood–what did this say about how I’d raised her?
I pushed my plate aside. Demetrius stayed quiet across from me.
As we exited the restaurant, two familiar figures walked in–Drew and Nicholas.
I spotted them but kept walking, passing by without acknowledgment. Demetrius trailed behind silently.
Zain’s POV
“What the fuck? Since when does she ignore us like that?”
Drew stared after Blanche, completely bewildered.
Nicholas shrugged. “Beats me.”
They’d always seen Blanche as desperately clingy–the moment she spotted them, she’d latch on like a parasite, fishing for any crumb of

information about me.
But today? She’d walked right past them.
Drew couldn’t process it. “That was Blanche, right? Tell me I’m hallucinating”
Nicholas pushed him toward the entrance. “Get moving. Zain is waiting.”
Drew kept rambling as they headed inside. “Seriously, did she not notice us? Or did someone lobotomize her this morning?”
His questions didn’t stop until they reached the private dining room.
Seeing me finally shut Drew up–at least until the appetizers arrived.
Scooting closer to me, Drew whispered conspiratorially, “You’ll never guess who I just saw.”
I despised guessing games. “Who?”
“Blanche. Your wife.”
I didn’t even flinch, just continued eating.
This irritated Drew. “Dude, she completely ignored me. The same Blanche who used to stalk us just to ask about your whereabouts? Now
she treats me like I’m invisible. Did someone hex her or something?”
I placed my chopsticks down. “No clue.”
Drew’s frown deepened. “Has she asked for a divorce?”
“No.”
“Then…” Drew’s eyes went wide. “Is she having an affair?”
That memory of Blanche dining with some guy flashed through his mind. Definitely suspicious.
I paused a beat too long. “Possibly.”
Drew nearly choked on his food. “You’re Zain fucking Jacob! How can you just sit there while someone’s cuckolding you?”
I offered no response, seemingly indifferent.
Nicholas interrupted, “Blanche worshipped Zain. She’d never cheat. You’re being paranoid.”
Drew scoffed. “Fine, if you won’t deal with this, I will.”
I stood up, reaching for my jacket.
Drew called out, “I’ll handle this mess for you!”
I didn’t turn around. “Do whatever.”
The instant I left, Drew fired off a text: “Get me everything on this guy”
Demetrius’s flawless resume popped up on his phone within minutes.

‘Impressive–for a dead man walking, he thought.
That’s what happens when you mess with Zain’s wife.’
Drew typed his next message with satisfaction: “Destroy his medical career.”
