41 Chapter 41 Her Happiness Is All

Zain’s POV 1

Inside the sleek black Rolls Royce, Carry and I occupied the back seat.

Carry had been weeping endlessly, and even though the tears had stopped, her body still shook with lingering sobs.

Eventually, Joanna appeared at the school gates. Following my usual routine, I stepped out and pulled the car door open for her.

Joanna’s eyes were swollen red, and she gazed at me with deep appreciation. Zain, thank you.”

I offered her a tight, forced smile before circling back to my seat.

Carry sat between Joanna and me.

Joanna’s wounded finger remained unbandaged. She’d pressed tissues against it to stem the bleeding, but the solution was clearly

temporary.

She made no mention of any discomfort, though. The moment she settled into the car, she turned toward Carry. Carry, I’m sorry. I acted

without thinking, and now people are gossiping about you because of my actions. This is all my doing.”

Fresh tears pooled in Carry’s eyes as she collapsed into Joanna’s embrace. Miss Joanna, none of this is your fault. I ruined the dance

performance, which is why they started talking about us. I’m the one who made the mistake.

Joanna wrapped Carry protectively, though her gaze kept drifting toward me. My expression was rigid and grave, and she could clearly

read my dark mood.

Barely registering Carry’s words, Joanna directed her apology at me. Zain, I’m sorry. I failed to keep Carry safe.

When I met Joanna’s eyes, I suppressed the coldness in my stare and managed a weak smile. Don’t worry about it. You’ve never been a

mother before, and honestly, you’re doing amazingly well. Today’s incident wasn’t your responsibility.

Carry pulled back from Joanna’s arms. Exactly, Miss Joanna, you’ve given everything you have. Those people just don’t know quality

when they see it.

And honestly, it’s partly Mom’s fault too; if she had accompanied me to the performance, no one would have whispered about me.

Despite Carry’s terror that Blanche might stop loving her, she couldn’t suppress her bitterness when she remembered Blanche

celebrating with Camila instead.

Mom was clearly available, but she still decided against coming to my performance, Carry brooded internally.

That single fact was enough to plant seeds of resentment in Carry’s heart.

Watching them both defend her, Joanna finally allowed herself to unwind. She pulled Carry close, her tone tender. Carry, I’ll figure out how to care for you properly. I swear I’ll do much better next time.”

Right then, I interjected. You’ve already pushed yourself so hard. I’ll arrange for someone else to watch Carry.”

41 Chapter 41 Her Happiness Is All

Joanna had never raised children and genuinely wanted to avoid being trapped in a caretaker role. Since I had brought it up, she simply

agreed. That sounds reasonable.

Internally, Joanna felt a rush of relief, though she displayed visible disappointment.

But Carry objected immediately. She shot me a defiant look. Dad, I don’t want anyone else taking care of me. I only want Miss Joanna.

She’s the only one who helps me sleep peacefully.”

My expression grew stern. Miss Joanna has her own responsibilities. I’ll ask your grandmother to look after you instead.

Carry’s face twisted with displeasure. I don’t want Grandma watching me. She only cares about boys. She doesn’t care about me.”

Ophelia did favor boys, but she wasn’t cruel to Carryjust not particularly affectionate.

That explained Carry’s dislike.

I wasn’t prepared to compromise. Just as I was about to respond firmly, Carry threw herself back into Joanna’s arms. Miss Joanna, you’re

perfect. With you here, I don’t even need Mom anymore. Hmph.

Joanna tenderly stroked Carry’s hair, her expression radiating gentle affection.

I studied them both, my voice uncertain. This might be overwhelming for you.

Joanna’s smile brightened. It’s perfectly fine. Carry’s such a sweet child. I simply can’t stand the thought of abandoning her.

I finally gave in with a resigned, Alright.”

Glancing down, I noticed blood still seeping from Joanna’s injured hand.

I’d been so consumed with Carry’s crisis that I’d completely overlooked Joanna’s untreated wound.

Seeing it now sent a jolt of panic through me. I reached over, grasped her hand, and demanded, Why haven’t you bandaged this

properly?

Joanna, her eyes still redrimmed, shook her head. I was searching for Carry. There just wasn’t time.”

In reality, she had visited the school infirmary but ultimately refused the doctor’s treatment.

Having me discover it now worked even better, Joanna calculated silently.

I immediately went into alarm mode. We’re heading to the hospital immediately.

After rushing Joanna to the hospital for proper wound care, I drove everyone back to Blissfield Villa.

Heidi spotted our return and rushed out to welcome us. Hello, Mr. Jacob, Ms. Vins, Miss Carry.

I gave her specific directions. Prepare soup for tonight. Joanna injured her finger, so keep everything mildno rich or spicy dishes.

Heidi beamed and nodded. Of course, Mr. Jacob.

Once everyone had moved into the main hall, Heidi quickly inquired, Should I prepare something different for you, Mr. Jacob?

Heidi knew I typically didn’t enjoy soup.

I considered briefly before answering, No, I’ll have the soup as well.

Heidi immediately grasped the situationI simply wanted to share the plain meal with Joanna.

Upstairs, I directed Joanna to rest in the guest room. Then I guided Carry into the master bedroom and shut the door.

Carry settled onto the sofa, appearing puzzled by my actions.

Dad, what’s happening?she wondered.

I sat across from her, taking her small hands in mine. Carry, I need to ask you something important.

Carry nodded. Okay.

Between Mom and Miss Joanna, which one do you prefer?I asked seriously, studying Carry intently, trying to read her true feelings.

Carry considered this, then met my gaze. I love both Mom and Miss Joanna.”

I frowned. But if you could only choose one?

Carry wavered, then dropped her eyes. I’m not sure.

Even though she was frustrated and somewhat angry with Mom, she just couldn’t imagine giving her up, Carry reasoned.

Miss Joanna was truly wonderful; she was gorgeous and commanded attention everywhere. Being with her made Carry look impressive

to everyone, Carry mused. If she absolutely had to choose one, she honestly had no idea what she would do.

Observing her internal struggle, I cupped her cheek and spoke gently. But it appears Mom doesn’t care about us anymore.”

Carry detected something troubling and asked anxiously, Dad, are you planning to divorce Mom?

Her question caught me off guard. After a moment’s hesitation, I reassured her softly, No, darling. I’ll ensure you always have your

mother.

Carry exhaled with relief, leaped from the sofa, and wrapped her arms around me tightly. Dad, I want both Mom and Miss Joanna to love

  1. me. And I want your love

My heart practically melted. I pressed my forehead gently against hers. Miss Joanna and I will always love you.

Carry gazed up at me, worry filling her wide eyes.

What about Mom?

I smiled and playfully tugged her earlobe. I’ll make certain Mom continues loving you.

Carry was so thrilled she leaped up and spun around the room, whirling like a tiny tornado.

Watching my daughter’s joy, I couldn’t help thinking, It seems there’s no way out of this marriage with Blanche.

Regardless of Blanche’s nature, Carry will always be our child. Her happiness is all I truly want.
