79 Chapter 79 A Surgeons Ruined Hands
Blanche’s POV 1
If I tell Zain about this, he’ll definitely find a way to stop Drew from putting pressure on Demetrius, I thought.
But the second I finished speaking, my anxiety spiked.
To my shock, Joanna’s voice drifted through the line. “Zain, look. There’s a shooting star. Quick, make a wish.”
The call went quiet for a beat, then Joanna’s voice came back. “Zain, what did you wish for?”
Zain responded gently, “It’s a secret.”
His reply was short, but the tenderness in his tone was impossible to miss.
Even over the phone, I could feel the intimate spark between Zain and Joanna.
Joanna giggled and said, “Carry spotted some crabs. Want to go catch them together?”
Zain answered instantly, “Yeah, let’s go.”
Then he seemed to remember I was still on the line and asked, “Wait. What were you saying just now?”
He hadn’t heard a word I’d said.
I stayed silent.
After what seemed like an eternity, my voice came out barely audible as I asked, “Where are you?”
It was a question I’d posed countless times before.
But this time, I wasn’t asking to salvage our marriage.
Zain hesitated, then asked, “Are you checking up on me?”
I said, “There are some things I want to tell you face–to–face.”
Zain responded with clear detachment, “I’m busy right now. Let’s talk next time.”
I’d heard those words far too many times.
But when is the next time? I wondered. To him, next time usually means never.
I was about to explain why I’d called, but he ended the call.
Hearing the dial tone, I lowered my phone, feeling completely drained.
For two solid days, I didn’t contact Zain again. But Demetrius had gone completely silent.
And while everything was falling apart, Vincent’s gifts kept arriving daily, without fail.
I didn’t bother opening any of the jewelry boxes stacking up.

With Vincent, you could guarantee nothing he sent was inexpensive.
I knew it was all pointless, but Vincent kept sending them, one after another.
Right now, with everything happening, I couldn’t even think about Vincent; I was too consumed with worry that something had happened to Demetrius.
I waited an entire day, but Demetrius still hadn’t responded to any of my messages. I couldn’t sit still any longer.
I decided to hunt Zain down myself, wherever he was.
I texted Zain: [Which city are you in? I need to talk to you face–to–face. It’s urgent.] But after hitting send, my message vanished into silence–no response whatsoever.
The next day, I checked my phone again–still nothing from Zain.
I opened a video app and looked up Vinshub’s account. The IP address showed they were in the neighboring city, Wina.
Matching the paparazzi’s vacation photos with the beach scenery and local landmarks, I finally narrowed down their location: a coastal
city called Windsor.
I booked the earliest available flight, but it wasn’t until afternoon.
By the time I landed, it was already 7 PM.
It was late fall, and the sky had already darkened considerably.
I hopped into a taxi, questioning the driver about where Zain and his group might be as we drove over.
Meanwhile, at Windsor’s most luxurious hotel, a beach bonfire party was underway.
Servers bustled around grilling meat, cutting coconuts, and preparing food.
Near the shore, Zain and Joanna had created their own little bubble with Carry.
Carry was having the time of her life, diving during the day, collecting shells at sunset, and partying by the water at night.
She wanted to stay in this paradise forever.
Around the bonfire tables, various grilled meat skewers were stacked high, with cold beer and red wine at the ready.
Drew and Nicholas lounged casually, eating and drinking, occasionally glancing at the happy family trio enjoying themselves nearby.
After a while, Drew checked his phone and suddenly burst into laughter. “Nicholas, check this out. I just made up some charges against Demetrius, and now a whole mob is piling on, trying to destroy him.
“Not only that, but people have been trapping him at home for days. The cherry on top? He tried sneaking out in disguise the other day, but someone spotted him, beat him up on the spot, and even damaged his hand.”
Drew shook his head, made a tsk sound, and chuckled, “Nicholas, think about it. A surgeon with an injured hand? He’s basically useless

now, right?”
Drew laughed even harder, as if showcasing his greatest triumph with Demetrius’s ruin.
Nicholas kept his expression grim throughout, never supporting Drew’s comments.
But Drew remained oblivious. He scrolled through his phone and said, “I just got the ball rolling, and people online are even more furious than I am. They’re throwing around accusations like bribery and illegal fundraising.
“All I had to do was plant a few seeds, and someone would jump in to finish the job.”
Just then, Nicholas interrupted, “Drew, do you really think this is justified?”
Drew glared at Nicholas, clearly irritated. “Why wouldn’t it be?
He deserved it for interfering with Zain’s woman. He chose the wrong battle, and that’s on him.”
Nicholas sighed, “Zain doesn’t even care about her. She can’t just spend her entire life as Mrs. Jacob, can she?
Even if she’s married, she still has the right to seek her own happiness.”
Drew was livid. “You’ve completely lost it. Maybe you should get your brain examined.”
Nicholas didn’t let Drew’s rage affect him. He said, “Drew, Demetrius’s an excellent doctor. He operated on my friend.”
Drew just sneered, “Why should that matter to me? I’ll never need someone like him in my life.”
Nicholas shot back, “Maybe you don’t need him, but countless other people do.”
Drew looked momentarily stunned, then just dismissed it. “Not my concern.”
Nicholas pressed on, “Do you have any clue how long it takes to train an exceptional doctor? Demetrius’s already excelling in surgery,
and he’s still young. Have you considered how many lives he could save?”
Drew interrupted him, clearly fed up, “Nicholas, drop it. Who made you the moral police?”
Not far off, Zain was spending time with Joanna and Carry, searching for starfish and crabs. The sound of their heated debate was
swallowed by the waves hitting the shore.
Drew and Nicholas were really heated now, their faces flushed with rage, nearly ready to come to blows.
Eventually, realizing he couldn’t reason with Drew, Nicholas stalked out of the hotel,
But as soon as Nicholas stepped outside the hotel, he almost crashed into me as I climbed out of a taxi.
I looked up and spotted Nicholas. I knew I’d found the right place and couldn’t help but feel a small surge of relief.
Nicholas stared at me, confused. “Blanche? What brings you here?”
I used to always appear unexpectedly around them. But I hadn’t done that in forever.
Nicholas assumed I’d finally stopped clinging to Zain, but apparently, old patterns die hard.
