“I do.”
“Leighton, what kind of things do you like?”

Leighton had stayed up all night watching over Garrett. Finn and the others told him to take Zora home to rest.
He agreed and left the hospital with her.
On the drive home, Zora frowned a little, thinking about Leighton’s coming birthday.
She had no clue what he liked, or what gift she should get for him.
His birthday was only a month away, just 30 days left.
She had no idea what kind of present would fit him.
She thought she might as well ask him straight up.
A gift only matters if it’s something the person actually likes.
What if she picked something he didn’t enjoy?
Leighton glanced at her and smiled softly. “You wanna buy me a birthday gift?”
Zora nodded. “Yeah. It’s your birthday. I wanna get you something you like, but I don’t know what you want.”
“Anything from you is good. I’ll love whatever you give me.”
Leighton never cared much about his birthday before, but he suddenly started looking forward to it.
“Okay, I’ll figure something out then.”
His answer made it awkward for her to keep asking about his preferences.
They slept most of the day once they got home.
In the afternoon, Zora’s phone rang out of nowhere.
It was an unknown number.
“Hello? Who is this?”

She had just woken up, so her voice sounded soft, sleepy and a little rough.
She rolled over in bed and pulled her blanket tighter around herself.
No one spoke on the other end.
“Hello?” she asked again.
The person on the line held their breath for a long time.
Zora rubbed her messy hair. She stared at the strange number with tired eyes, and a feeling told her the truth.
She spoke carefully, sounding nervous. “Mentor?”
She heard fast, shaky breathing from the other side and gripped her phone tighter.
Finally, a reply came.
“Zora-”
The voice was quiet, warm and full of fondness.
Zora’s mind went blank.
It was the voice she knew so well and had missed like crazy.
She sat up fast and threw off her blanket. Her voice broke the second she spoke. “Mentor…”
She hurried and stumbled out of bed.
When she opened her bedroom door, Leighton was standing right outside.
He was about to call her for dinner.
“What’s wrong?”
Leighton caught her before she tripped.
“My mentor… he’s back!”
Zora grabbed his arm, her eyes bright with pure surprise and happiness.
Leighton’s body went stiff at once.
“Go get dressed. I’ll drive you to see him.”

He looked down and saw she was only wearing pajamas, with no shoes on.
Her soft, pale feet pressed lightly into the thick carpet.
“Oh… okay.”

Zora was way too excited. Leighton turned her around gently, and she rushed back into her room to change clothes.
The door shut in front of him.
Leighton stood frozen in the hallway, numb for a second, and missed a beat of his breath.
The hot food on the nearby dining table slowly turned cold.
He pulled out his phone and made a call.
“Leighton?”
Jensen answered, but Leighton said nothing for a long time.
“You guys… are back?”
Leighton sounded calm, but his voice was rough.
“Yeah.”
“Leighton! I’m ready! Let’s go!”
Zora pulled the door open, unable to hide how excited she was.

Leighton drove her to the airport.
They couldn’t book a last-minute private flight, so they took the earliest regular flight instead.
“Turn right up ahead!”
When they got close to the airport, Zora saw a flower shop on the side of the road and spoke quickly.
Leighton slowly hit the brakes and stopped the car.
“What’s up?” His voice was way too calm.
“I need to buy some flowers.”
