Chapter 399 Home Again.
“Thanks, Zora.” Jensen took the flowers with both hands, a big smile on his face.
“Asher, this is Leighton.” Jensen introduced Leighton, who’d stayed quiet this whole time.
“Nice to meet you, Leighton. I’m Asher. Thanks for looking after Zora all this time.”
Asher looked at Leighton and held out his hand with a soft smile.
Asher knew who Leighton was.
But Leighton barely knew anything about him. Asher had moved overseas at seven years old, when Leighton was just three.
After that, Asher was only a name the older family members talked about.
Now they were finally meeting in person.
The two men were about the same height, and both were good-looking.
Their eyes met. They sized each other up for a quick second, a quiet tension in the air.
It only lasted a moment.
“I’m Leighton. No need to thank me. We’re family. Welcome home, Asher.”
Leighton shook his hand and gave a small smile.
Just from that simple greeting, they could tell they’d get along.
Family. Asher thought about that word. He glanced at Leighton, who’d stood right by Zora’s side the whole time, and a faint emotion flashed in his gentle eyes.
Jensen spoke up.
“You two said your hellos already. Let’s head back first. We can talk more at home. He’s still recovering and needs rest.”
“What’s wrong with your health?”
Zora panicked and grabbed Asher’s wrist, wanting to check his pulse.
“It’s nothing. Let’s go home.”
Asher gently held her hand, wrapped his fingers around her wrist, and led her out of the airport.

Everyone got in Leighton’s car.
Asher and Zora sat in the back seat.
“Have you guys eaten yet?” Leighton asked, glancing at the back from the rearview mirror.
“We haven’t. We rushed back last minute. The plane food was bad, so he didn’t eat anything.”
Jensen was on his phone catching up on work.
He’d been gone for a month, so a lot of company work had piled up.
Asher was picky with food, and airplane meals never suited him.
Jensen hadn’t eaten either.
“We haven’t eaten either. Let’s go eat at Cloud Restaurant.” Leighton turned the steering wheel.
The food there was good, and he knew they’d like it.
“Sure, that sounds good.”
Asher pressed down on Zora’s hand-she was still trying to check his pulse.
“No sneaky moves.” He patted her hand lightly.
“What’s wrong with you? Why won’t you let me check? And why haven’t you taken off?”
Zora frowned, clearly worried.
He’d kept his mask on ever since she saw him at the airport.
“Cough-”
Leighton coughed suddenly from the front seat.
Zora instantly shifted her attention.
“Are you okay? Did you not wear enough last night and catch a cold?”
The other two men both turned their focus to Leighton.
“I’m fine… I just choked on something.”
“What happened last night?” Jensen asked.

Asher narrowed his eyes a little.
Leighton gave a short, simple explanation.
The two men looked forward again.
“Zora, watch how you talk.
“People might get the wrong idea.”
Asher felt a little helpless about Zora’s casual way of speaking. He flicked her forehead gently with his finger.
That kind of wording was easy to misread.
“I’m fine. Don’t you trust my own medical skills?”
Asher quietly shifted to the side, putting a little space between them.
His sleeve slid down and covered his wrist completely.
“Then why won’t you let me check your pulse?” Zora didn’t believe him.
If he was really fine, he wouldn’t hide from her check.
The two men up front listened quietly to their conversation.
Even after months apart, their bond was still super strong.
“Zora, check him thoroughly. He said he still had an old illness that acts up.”
Jensen turned around when he saw Zora going for Asher’s pulse.
Asher shot him a quick glance.
“I’m checking you right now.” Zora insisted even more.
“Will you relax once you check?” Asher sounded helpless.
“Just let me finish checking first.” Zora held out her hand.
Asher slowly lifted his wrist for her.
