Chapter 18 A Place at the Table

Larissa only explained herself once. No matter what Nelson thought, she didn’t want to beg for family affection ever again.
Nelson freed one hand and firmly held hers, comforting her with certainty. “Larissa, I’m really glad you explained it to me yourself. I believe you. After seeing that Julia today, she was obviously fake and two- faced. Just one look told me she was bad news. She can’t compare to my precious little sister at all. I’ll handle everything for you, so don’t worry.”
Larissa’s lips curved slightly. “Thank you for trusting me, Nelson. But there’s no need to suppress the video. If possible, I’d like you to make it bigger. Post it on other major platforms too.”
Nelson agreed immediately. “No problem. I’ve got the right connections for that. I’ll make sure it becomes number one trending topic. I’m just worried you might get hurt. That video makes it easy for people to misunderstand you.”
Larissa answered calmly and confidently, “Nelson, trust me.”
Nelson glanced at the cake in her hands. “Why aren’t you eating it? Do you not like strawberry?”
He felt that Larissa was mysterious, but somehow incredibly adorable.
This sweet, well–behaved girl was actually his sister.
Just looking at her made him feel happy.
“I’ll eat it when we get home, I’m worried I might spill it in the car and dirty the seats. Then you’d have to clean the car, and that’s troublesome,” Larissa explained.
Even though Nelson treated her well, she still believed in keeping proper boundaries.
No one was kind to someone for no reason.
She never took any of this for granted.
If she could avoid causing trouble for others, she would.
Nelson hadn’t expected her to be so considerate.
What had Larissa gone through all these years?
She was so considerate it’s heartbreaking.
He wished he could go back to when she was five years old and make sure she never got lost. If she had grown up under his protection, she wouldn’t have been so cautious, so painfully mature.
“Larissa, eat the cake. Even if you get it on the car, it doesn’t matter. You matter more than anything else to me. The car can be washed. How could I let my precious sister go hungry? You don’t need to be so polite with me. We’re family. I’m your fifth brother, and I’ll always take care of you and believe in you. With me, you never need to worry or hold back. No matter what you do, I’ll never be mad at you. I’ll protect you and spoil you for the rest of my life,” Nelson said gently.

Larissa’s eyes reddened as she took small bites of the cake.
Having a brother felt really nice.
When they returned to the Sowle Estate, Ruby had already had the servants prepare dinner and was waiting for Larissa to come home.
At the table sat Leonard, Ruby, Nelson, and Larissa.
“Eat more, Larissa. How was school today? Could you keep up with the lessons? If not, that’s fine too. I don’t ask for anything else. I just want you to be happy. In the future, whether you want to study abroad or attend any school here, I’ll support you,” Ruby said warmly.
Ruby placed a piece of braised ribs onto Larissa’s plate with clear affection.
Larissa nodded and quietly ate her food.
Ever since Julia returned to the Turner Estate, Larissa had never been allowed to sit at the table and eat with the Turners.
After being framed by Julia countless times, she had not even been given the right to eat with them, let alone have food placed on her plate.
So this was what it felt like to be part of a family.
“Don’t just eat rice–have more dishes! What your mom said is exactly what I want for you, too. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. I’ve already transferred 20% of the Sowle Group’s shares into your name,” Leonard added.
