Chapter 443 Side Story: A Dream That Felt Real
“Turn back now. It’s not too late.”
Leonard’s voice was raw.
Roy gave him a cold, dismissive look.
“Spare me the speeches. Winner takes all, loser takes nothing.
“Today, I’m taking the chairman’s seat.
“You’re the loser here.”
Right as he was sure he’d won, the conference room door was thrown open.
Larissa walked in, and behind her, Truman looked visibly much stronger than anyone in that room had expected.
Every person at the table went rigid.
Roy saw his father, and his face drained of color.
“Dad-you-you’re not-” Roy stumbled over his own words.
Truman let out a cold laugh.
“These old bones are a lot tougher than you thought. The one I should be worrying about is you-so hungry for power you’d poison your own father!”
Larissa stepped forward, her gaze ice cold.
‘Uncle Roy. You thought you’d covered your tracks?
‘I already neutralized the poison. And I have everything you’ve been doing on the record.”
She laid out the evidence of his poisoning plot, piece by piece, in front of the entire room.
She looked at him with knife-edge eyes and let a cold smile touch her mouth.
‘Uncle Roy. It’s time for your little performance to end.”
Roy’s color went grey. His knees buckled under him, and he collapsed to the floor.
Every shareholder at the table was furious, shouting accusations at him.
“To claw for power like this, you’d actually poison your own father?
“Nobody who sits at a table with a man like you is safe. You’d put a knife in any of our backs.”
“Get out of the Sowle Group. We don’t need someone this vicious.”
“People like this belong in hell.”
These were all men and women who’d built the empire alongside Truman in the early days.
Now that Truman was back on his feet, they were happy to rally behind him again.
The police arrived soon after and took Roy away.
Truman formally transferred control of the company to Leonard.
Leonard was dragging in hard, ragged breaths. The dream had been unbearably real.
It had felt like something that had actually happened.
That real.
His chest hurt. It hurt so much.
Leonard sat up in bed with a jolt. Cold sweat had soaked through his sleepshirt.
It took a long moment for him to understand it had been a dream.
But his daughter’s face in that dream-the misery of her life, the way she had died-left him wrecked.
Thank God. Thank God it had only been a dream.
Ruby had been woken by his breathing. She saw the tears still sitting in his eyes.
“What’s wrong? A grown man having nightmares at your age?”
Leonard finally explained. He told her everything he had seen in the dream.
“Sweetheart. I’m terrified. The dream-what happened to our daughter in it. It was unbearable.
“Thank God it was only a dream.
“The Turners actually had the nerve to treat my daughter like that. I am going to make them answer for it.”
