“What, embarrassed? Good. I want everyone to know–you’re cheating. Let’s see how you keep your position as president of Mercer Group after this!”
By then, security had arrived at the door. Any patience or affection Chase once had was long gone. He gave a dismissive wave. “Take her out.”
“Yes, Mr. Mercer.”
The guards moved in, grabbing Katrina by the arms.
She struggled and screamed, her voice echoing through the office. “Chase! Are you really throwing me out? All for Nina–you’d treat me like this? Chase!”
News of Katrina storming into Chase’s office spread through Mercer Group in no time. In a circle like theirs, nothing stayed secret for long. Nina heard about it soon enough from Caleb.
Apparently, the scene had been huge. Katrina had stood outside the Mercer Group building, shouting loud enough to draw a crowd. Plenty of people had filmed it, and the videos were already circulating online. The image of Chase and Katrina as a loving couple for many years was completely shattered.
Nina wasn’t surprised.
Five years of marriage–there was no way it had all been smooth and happy. Whatever harmony people thought they saw had only ever been for show. The resentment between them had been there for a long
time.
“Perfect timing. Dad’s probably going all out for my birthday this year, right?”
Nina had never cared much about birthday parties before. Sitting across from her, Caleb raised an eyebrow. “Since when are you interested? What are you up to?”
After five years of friendship, Caleb could spot one of Nina’s schemes instantly.
Nina smiled. “Well, Chase is still the president of Mercer Group. Things between us haven’t exactly been great, but we did grow up together. It wouldn’t hurt to send him an invitation.”
Caleb stared at her, baffled. “Invite Chase? Aren’t you usually sick to your stomach every time you see him? What, did you get cured?”
Nina’s eyes curved with a sly smile. “It’s fine. I’ll just take some anti–nausea meds.”

Caleb was speechless.

Watching her carefree expression, he clicked his tongue. One look at Nina told him she was definitely plotting something.
Chase was probably in for a rough time.
Meanwhile, back at the Mercer residence, Chase glanced at Katrina, who was sitting on the couch looking like a wronged wife. Irritation surged through him. He turned to leave, but Katrina immediately snapped, “Stop right there!”
Chase frowned. Katrina strode over and held up an invitation. “This is from Nina. Take a good look.”
The moment he heard Nina’s name, Chase reached for it—but Katrina didn’t give him the chance. She tore the invitation in half right in front of him.
Chase’s expression darkened. “Katrina! What are you doing?”
“Chase, you threw me out of the company in front of everyone today. I’m a complete joke now! There’s no way I’m letting you go running back to Nina. Let me make this clear–her birthday is the day after tomorrow. You’re not stepping out that door!”
“Are you insane?”
Chase didn’t bother arguing. He bent down, picked up the torn pieces of the invitation, and walked out without another word.
“Chase! You just got back–where are you going now?”
Cecilia came downstairs, having heard the argument the whole time. She shot Katrina an annoyed look. “Katrina, that’s your husband. Making a scene at the company was bad enough -now you’ve driven him out of the house too?”
“Katrina! It’s your son who can’t get over Nina!” Katrina shot back. “He has a wife and a child, and he’s still chasing after another woman. If he wants to leave, let him! Maybe he shouldn’t come back to the Mercer house ever again!”
“What did you just say?” Cecilia snapped. “This is my son’s home! If he doesn’t come back here, where is he supposed to go?”
