As Chase started to leave with Katrina in hand, Nina suddenly shouted from the other side of the pool, “Stop!”
Her voice was sharp and firm. Chase turned around and sneered at Nina, “What? Are you going to explain he’s not your new flame, or that you two aren’t dating?”
Chase had seen enough over the past few days. Nina and Jensen were together at every chance. If Nina wasn’t using Jensen as his replacement, why would she suddenly get so close to him?
“I want you to apologize to Jensen,” Nina said. “And stop being so full of yourself. Just because you’re the most popular guy in school doesn’t mean everyone revolves around you. I called off our engagement, so I don’t have feelings for you anymore. I hope you finally get that.”
Nina’s unexpected words left the surrounding students exchanging confused glances.
“Engagement? What engagement?”
“Nina was engaged to Chase? No way–he’s a Mercer heir!”
“She’s lying, right? Who is she to be engaged to Chase?”
Hearing Nina had been engaged to Chase, Katrina tensed up immediately and looked at Chase anxiously. “Chase, were you engaged to Nina?”
When school started, rumors spread that there was one poor student in their grade. Nina kept to herself, and no one knew her background. Since she never carried designer bags or had a fancy car picking her up, everyone just assumed she was the only poor kid in their grade.
No one had imagined Nina was once engaged to Chase.
Back when they first enrolled, the Mercer Group was at its peak, and Chase was known as one of the Four Young Masters of Linholt.
Nobody would have linked a fatty girl like Nina to Chase.
Surrounded by whispers and Katrina’s questioning, Chase felt utterly frustrated.
He had always acted disgusted by Nina’s crush on him–even his friends knew how much he hated her. But now Nina was revealing they had actually been engaged.
His teenage pride felt completely crushed.

“While I’m at it,” Nina said coolly, “should I tell everyone how you chased after me the night I called it off, begging me to change my mind?”
The girls around them immediately shifted their stares toward Chase.
“Nina!”
Chase couldn’t believe she would spread such lies.
Nina didn’t bother explaining. She grabbed Jensen’s hand and started to leave.
Just then, a student burst in, panicking. “Something’s wrong! It’s bad!”
The second Nina heard those words, her first thought was of their foreign language teacher, Lisa.
Seven days had passed. The problem was finally showing.
None of the other students knew what was going on, but all of them rushed toward the classroom building, eager to see the drama.
A huge crowd had already gathered outside their grade’s hallway. From inside the office, Lisa’s shrill voice exploded out. “Ms. Reed, you owe me an explanation today!”
Lisa always cared deeply about her figure and appearance, but right now she was raging like a madwoman.
Dora, the homeroom teacher, felt helpless. She had no idea what was going on, so she sent a student to get Katrina.
