She turned to leave, but Katrina wasn’t about to let her go. Grabbing Nina’s arm, she demanded, “Explain yourself. What do you mean by ‘family‘? What were you two just plotting? Say it!”
Katrina held on tightly.
At that moment, Chase walked in and saw the scene. He immediately stepped forward, pried Katrina’s hand off Nina, and snapped, “Let go!”
Katrina stumbled back from the force and fell onto the sofa.
“Are

you okay? Did she hurt you?” Chase asked, his voice tight with concern as he looked Nina
Meeting his anxious gaze, Nina simply shook her head. “I’m fine.”
From the sofa, Katrina watched Chase and Nina lock eyes, and her temper snapped. She stormed over and grabbed Nina’s wrist again. “Nina! Flirting with my husband right in front of me? Have you no shame?”
“Enough!” Chase shot back, glaring at Katrina. “You’re always accusing people of this and that. Aren’t you tired of it?”
“Tired of it?” Katrina fired back. “Chase, you were out with another woman last night, and I haven’t even confronted you about it yet! I went to your office–you weren’t there. I called- you didn’t pick up. Then, the second you hear Nina’s here, you rush home. Don’t tell me you’re not still hung up on her!”
Chase’s voice turned cold. “So what if I am? If it weren’t for you, Nina and I would’ve been married a long time ago. And you still think you have the right to accuse me?”
“You-!” Furious, Katrina lunged at him, hitting and kicking.
Nina watched the scene unfold, a faint smile playing at her lips.
So this is what you wanted, Chase. The marriage you fought for, the woman you insisted on marrying. Now that you have it… it doesn’t seem so perfect after all.
“You two can sort out your own issues,” Nina said calmly. “I have things to do, so I’ll be going.”
She didn’t even glance at Chase as she turned to leave. Cecilia hurried over and shoved Chase lightly. “What are you standing there for? Go after her!”

“Go after who? Don’t you have a wife?” Katrina blocked his path, refusing to let him pass.
Chase looked at her, irritation plain on his face. “Katrina, you’re really getting on my nerves.”
“Then explain it to me!” she demanded. “How far have things gone between you and Nina? Last night at The Onyx Club–was that you leaving with her in your arms? Answer me!”
The woman in the photo had a stunning figure, and her face even resembled Nina’s a little, just dressed differently that night.
But Katrina wasn’t thinking clearly anymore. All her anger came pouring out at once.
Yes, Chase had been in the wrong for seeing another woman. He’d even felt a bit guilty about it earlier.
But after watching Katrina make a scene in front of Nina, that guilt vanished. His patience snapped. He grabbed Katrina by the throat, his eyes hard and cold. “Katrina, I’m warning you -stay out of my business. And if I ever catch you going after Nina again, I won’t go easy on you.”
“Cough…!” Katrina struggled for air, nearly choking.
In all their years together, no matter how badly they’d fought, Chase had never laid a hand on her.
But now, for Nina…
“H–help…”
At her strained plea, Chase finally let go.

Katrina watched him rush out after Nina, resentment and unwillingness churning inside her.
She had been the one by his side all these years. Now that he’d finally made something of himself, there was no way she’d let Nina swoop in and take it all.
Outside the Mercer residence, Chase spotted Nina just as she was about to get into her car. He rushed forward and stopped her. “Nina! Don’t go!”
Nina had deliberately slowed her pace earlier, betting he would come after her–and he had.
Now he stood there, guilt written all over his face. “I’m sorry. Did I scare you back there?”
