Nina had long since seen through the Mercers.

“Isn’t that Mr. Grey from Halmont? What’s he doing here?”

“I heard the Tann family took him in for a while before. He must be here to celebrate Ms. Tann’s birthday.”

“No way. He’s already got a fiancée–why would he come for her birthday? Isn’t he worried Ms. Beaumont will get jealous?”

The chatter spread quickly as people speculated about Jensen’s sudden appearance.

Nina stood frozen.

“Mr. Grey.” The name felt oddly unfamiliar to her.

She hadn’t seen Jensen in nearly six years.

And hearing that he had a fiancée stirred a faint, bitter ache in her chest. They’d once lived and eaten together, after all. The least he could’ve done was let her know he was getting engaged.
