“I’m fine,” she said, rubbing her temple. “Just felt a little dizzy for a second.”

Not far away, Katrina stood hidden in the shadows, her fists clenched tight.

“Chase, I’m not feeling well,” Nina said softly. “I think I’ll go upstairs and rest.”

Chase nodded. “I’ll take you up.”

Nina didn’t refuse.

He stayed by her side, steadying her as they walked back into the hotel.

Katrina fought the urge to rush over and slap Nina. Jaw tight, she followed behind them, her hands balled into fists.

On the second floor of the hotel, Chase walked Nina to her suite.

The Tann family had booked out the venue for the night, and the guest rooms were open for everyone to use. When Chase moved to help her inside, Nina stopped at the doorway.

She smiled at him. “Chase, this is far enough. Katrina’s still downstairs waiting for you–you don’t want her to get the wrong idea.”

The lights in the room were dim. With Nina’s cheeks faintly flushed and a bit of alcohol in his system, the atmosphere got to him more than it should have.

He stepped closer. “Nina, I just want to make sure you’re okay. That’s all.”

“I know. I made it back safely, didn’t I?” she said gently, not pushing him away or closing the door. “You should go back to Katrina. You know what she’s like–if you don’t, she’ll start overthinking things.”

A wave of heat was spreading through her body–the champagne was starting to take effect.

In her past life, Chase had never shown interest in her. Cecilia had once bought that kind of drug to push them into having a child sooner. Nina remembered the taste when it was mixed into alcohol. Thinking back to how Miles had been acting earlier, she was certain he’d slipped something into the champagne.

She’d only taken a small sip, but it was enough.

So Miles was really determined to marry her.

As he spoke, Chase pushed her further into the room and shut the door behind them.

Seeing that, Nina feigned alarm. “Chase, whatever it is, we can talk later. You should go–now.”

“Nina! I regret everything. I really do like you. What Katrina said today–that wasn’t how I truly feel. I want you to give me another chance. Nina!”

He pulled her into his arms.

Nina forced down her disgust, not shoving him away too forcefully.

As expected, Chase took it as encouragement. He scooped her up and moved toward the bed, leaning in to kiss her.

“Nina, let’s get back together, okay?”

As he spoke, he fumbled with her dress, trying to pull it off. The fishtail gown was complicated, and with the alcohol and his impatience, he started tearing at the fabric instead.

The sharp rip of cloth cut through the room.

“Chase! Don’t-!” Nina cried out, struggling. “You’re married–you can’t do this! Help! Someone, help!”

She shouted with all her strength, but Chase wouldn’t stop, determined to have her right then and there.

Nina lunged for the emergency button, but just as her finger brushed the wall, the door was kicked off its hinges. Jensen strode in, seizing Chase and hurling him off the bed in one fluid motion. Before Chase could even scramble to his feet, a group of bodyguards had him pinned to the floor.
