Jensen had meant it as a polite offer, but Caleb didn’t do polite formalities—if you said it, he took it seriously.
Nina lowered her head and focused on her breakfast as Jensen headed out.
Beside her, Caleb leaned in and whispered, “So how did the person Charlotte found work out?”
“What do you think? You saw him that day. Not much good for anything else, but great at playing the part when it comes to drinking and keeping company.”
“If that’s the case, you could’ve just asked me.”
“You?”
Nina glanced at him. He was striking enough–he’d even made Chase misunderstand things before–but acting flirty with Caleb in front of Chase just felt… off.
“Forget it. I’d probably end up laughing.”
“What’s there to be nervous about?” Caleb said. “I know what this is about. Chase embarrassed you back in high school–you’ve never let that go. And Katrina stole your fiancé. Of course, you can’t stand seeing them happy. You want Chase to wake up and fall hard for you again. To do that, you’ve got to push his buttons a little. How else are you going to trigger his competitive streak?”
Nina suddenly smiled. “You’ve really thought this through.”
“Of course,” Caleb said, patting his chest. “Leave it to me. I’ll handle it–I guarantee you’ll be satisfied.”
Esther came out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit and looked at them suspiciously. “What are you taking responsibility for? What are you two plotting now?”

“Less talk. Take me to the office.”
“You got it.”

He floored the gas, and before long they pulled up in the city center in front of a sizable company building, marked by a bold, oversized “T.”
Outside, a secretary was already waiting at the entrance. As soon as Nina and Caleb stepped out of the car, she hurried over to greet them.
“Mr. Tann, your office has been prepared.”
“Got it.”
Nina led Caleb inside.
He was stunned. The T Company that had exploded onto the scene in Linholt over the couple of years–the one everyone talked about–was hers.
past
“Nina, this is insane. How did I not know you built a company this big in Linholt?”
He’d heard people at home mention T Company more than once. In just three years, it had risen to the top. Every business it invested in had gone public, and several real estate projects had turned massive profits. Its valuation had skyrocketed from ten million to tens of billions.
Nina raised a finger to her lips. “Keep it down. You’re the first one I’ve told.”
Seeing how low–key she was about it, Caleb let out a laugh. “No wonder you said you were quitting the entertainment industry. You’ve gone from working for someone else to being the boss.”
“What’s so great about working for other people? I prefer being in charge.”
