Chapter 16 We’ll Take Him
Sensing the awkward tension between them, Wesley quickly said, “Uh… I’ll go get you some water! You two talk!”
With that, Wesley hurried off.
Looking at Jensen’s pale face, Nina said, “Why didn’t you tell me Mrs. Mercer was treating you like this?”
“It’s none of your business.”
“How can you say that? If I hadn’t asked you to stay and help me lose weight, you wouldn’t have been locked out.”
“I chose to do it myself. Besides, you paid me,” Jensen spoke calmly. “My problems have nothing to do with you. Just stay out of it.”
With that, he turned and walked away.

Watching his back, Nina felt a sharp wave of guilt.
She thought paying Jensen to help her would bring them closer and improve his life. Instead, she’d only made things harder for him.
That evening, Nina returned home. When Esther saw only Nina walk in, she froze. “Nina, why did you come back alone? Where’s Jensen?”
Esther was setting five places at the table.
“He’s… sick.”
“Sick? What happened? Did he push himself too hard training with you?”
“He’s been tutoring me late these days. Mrs. Mercer locked him outside, so he got a fever.”
As Nina finished speaking, Marvin walked in from the living room.
“Mom, Dad,” Nina said, “I need to ask you for a favor.”
Marvin and Esther exchanged a look.
Darkness had fallen. Jensen dragged himself toward the Mercer Villa and ran straight into Chase and Cecilia, who were sitting in their luxury car.

Cecilia had just brought Chase back from the hospital; the marks from earlier that day were
still clear on his face.
“Mom, this bastard hit me!” Chase sneered. He couldn’t touch Jensen at school, but at home, he could do whatever he wanted.
Cecilia glared at Jensen. She’d already been furious about the Tann family breaking the engagement and Chase’s reckless relationship. Now Jensen attacking Chase gave her the perfect excuse to lash out.
“How dare you, Jensen! I took you in out of kindness, and you beat my son? You’re evil! An ungrateful brat!”
Cecilia stepped forward and dug her nails into his arm. “How dare you come home after hitting him? Come on! We’re going to the police station! This isn’t over!”
Jensen frowned and shook her off–only to get slapped across the face.
“You’ve got some nerve! You dare fight back?”
Cecilia’s nails sliced Jensen’s cheek, leaving bright, visible marks.
Just then, headlights swept over the three of them.
Marvin, Esther, and Nina stepped out of the car, followed by two more vehicles.
The Tann family’s bodyguards and lawyers got out.
Cecilia had never seen such a scene and froze in shock.
“M–Marvin, Esther… you…”
“Don’t call me that!”
