“The Mercer family really has no shame. Their son is such a flawed man, yet they still dare to say such audacious things.”
“Exactly. Ms. Tann is pure and outstanding. Why would she ever marry into their family and raise another woman’s child?”
“Chase should really take a good look at himself. He cannot hold a candle to Mr. Grey, not even close to being half as good as Mr. Rhodes.”
Cecilia burned with rage hearing the maids‘ scornful whispers. Yet every word they said rang true, leaving her with no way to argue back. She finally left the place filled with embarrassment and resentment.
Back in the living room, Nina glanced at the supplements Cecilia had brought over and spoke coldly, “Throw all of these away.”
“Throw them away? Miss, these are all top–grade quality items.”
“From now on, discard anything sent by the Mercer family right away. Don’t ever bring such things near me again.”
“Understood.”
The maid carried all the gifts straight out and dumped them in the outdoor trash bin.
Around that time, Kent arrived at the villa gate. The maid was caught off guard the moment she spotted him.
“May I ask who you are?”
“I’m here to see Ms. Tann.” Kent pulled out his business card. “Mr. Grey sent me to pick her up. He wants her to come to Grey Group and learn how to run corporate affairs.”
The maid realized he was a high–ranking aide from Grey Group at once. She hurried inside to inform Nina.
“Ms. Tann, Mr. Grey’s assistant is here to take you to their company.”
Nina leaned over and saw Kent standing by the entrance waving at her. She frowned slightly.
She had thought Jensen was only putting on an act before, but it seemed he truly intended to teach her business skills seriously.

She had brought up this idea herself in front of her parents. To keep Jensen from complaining about her to her family, she changed into proper clothes and got into the car, sitting in the back seat.
She had assumed that after moving out of the Tann Villa, Jensen would vanish just like he had for the past six years and cut off all contact with her. Yet things turned out differently now, and it seemed he planned to stay settled in Linholt for good.
The car soon pulled up outside Grey Group’s office building. Kent opened the car door and gestured for her to step out.
“Ms. Tann, Mr. Grey is waiting for you inside his office.”
“I see.”
Nina followed him upstairs.
The elevator doors slid open, and several female staff members stared at her curiously. She had visited once before, and none of them expected her to show up a second time.
“That’s the young heiress of the Tann family. I’ve seen her plenty on TV and in magazines.”
“What is she doing here? She seems awfully close to our boss.”
“No one knows what their real relationship is. Everyone knows Mr. Grey already has a fiancée anyway.”
Kent stepped forward to stop their gossip.
“Haven’t you finished your assigned work? Stop spreading baseless rumors.”
“We’re so sorry. We were just chatting casually.”
The women quickly scattered back to their work stations.
“My apologies for that awkward scene, Ms. Tann.”
“It’s fine.”
Nina had grown used to such idle talk long ago and paid it no mind. Society was always quick to pass unfair judgment on women, and even other women often spoke ill of their own kind.
She pushed open the office door and found the room empty.
“Mr. Grey has stepped out for a short meeting. He will be right back soon. I’ll go get you

some drinking water,” Kent said and left the room.

Nina glanced across his desk, which was neatly arranged with all kinds of office supplies. His computer desktop was kept tidy as well. She could tell Jensen had always been reserved and deep–minded, never letting anyone easily figure out his personal likes or preferences.
She was about to pull out a chair and wait for him when her eyes fell on an upside–down photo frame placed on the desk. She reached out intending to flip it over, when the office door was suddenly pushed open.
Jensen walked in in a slight hurry, a faint trace of restlessness showing on his face. The second he noticed her hand moving toward the frame, his tone turned sharp and cold.
“I don’t allow anyone to linger inside my private office. Please leave.”
