Chase narrowed his eyes sharply with a menacing look. Nina turned to Caleb and spoke casually.

“This dinner party is pretty dull. Let’s grab some snacks and head back. Watching him sign a partnership deal with just an assistant around is really boring, don’t you think?”

“Totally agree. It’s unbearably tedious.” Caleb chimed in right away. “Everyone thought the Mercer family hit the big time by teaming up with the Beaumonts and took this cooperation super seriously, yet the other side doesn’t care one bit. It’s honestly ridiculous.”

The two spoke in perfect sync, leaving Chase red-faced and fuming with embarrassment.

Other guests nearby overheard their blunt teasing and struggled hard to hold back their laughter. Only Caleb dared to speak the plain truth so openly at such a formal event.

Cecilia was furious upon hearing her son being mocked like this. She could not figure out why Caleb had even come here, suspecting he showed up purely to ruin their gathering.

She stepped forward, ready to confront him, but Katrina quickly stopped her. She feared a big scene would ruin the Mercer family’s reputation. If any trouble ruined this deal and made the Beaumonts call off the partnership, their family would suffer huge losses.

“Cecilia, don’t let him get to you on such an important occasion,” Katrina persuaded softly.

“Let go of me!” Cecilia snapped.

She saw right through Katrina’s thoughts. Katrina feared the Mercers might run into trouble once more. She would lose her fancy life as Mrs. Mercer then. She hated the thought of going back to a simple poor life, and she would never allow that to happen.

Meanwhile, Miles had slipped quietly into the villa. As a young heir of the Huntington family, it was easy for him to blend in among the large crowd of guests. Security checks had loosened halfway through the party, and no one doubted his excuse of stepping out for a while earlier.

The moment he walked into the main hall, he caught the conversation between Katrina and Cecilia. He was extremely familiar with Katrina’s voice. After checking the hotel surveillance footage before, he had roughly figured out what the woman who spent the night with him looked like.

The second he laid eyes on Katrina, he froze in shock. He never imagined the woman he slept with that night turned out to be Chase’s wife.

His voice instantly brought back all the memories of that night, draining all the color from Katrina’s face.

Miles leaned closer to her and whispered, “What do you think your husband would do if he found out what happened between us? Would he still keep you by his side?”

He knew very well how men thought. Most men saw their own casual flings as no big deal, something even widely accepted. But for a married woman having affairs outside marriage, it was seen as improper and immoral. Such women would get cast out of their family and become the target of public criticism.

Katrina’s face paled even more, her voice trembling nonstop. “What exactly do you want from me?”

Miles said this while slowly closing in on her.
