Chapter 224 Cutting Off Past Ties
Chapter 224 Cutting Off Past Ties
She knew perfectly well Jensen held no romantic feelings for her.
If he had truly cared, he would never have stayed distant all these five years.

It was nothing more than Audrey’s own misunderstanding, yet it had become her best bargaining chip against Julian.
“You certainly know how to think fast,” Julian said unhurriedly. “Still, aren’t you afraid I could make sure you never leave Halmont easily?”
“I know both your family and the Grey family hold great sway in this city, evenly matched in status and influence. If you lay a finger on me, do you think Jensen would stay calm and not quarrel with your sister?”
Julian’s brows tightened at her words.
“Besides, my family once did him a huge favor. If I went missing here, he would search every corner to find me. Once he learns you are behind it, he might even stand by justice over family ties.”
“You think far too highly of yourself.”
“I’m not overestimating myself in the slightest. Feel free to test it if you doubt me, and see if things end up as messy as I said.”
Having lived an extra twenty years and even survived death once, Nina feared nothing at all. She quickly gained the upper hand in this battle of wits.
Julian shifted his gaze away just as the waiter brought over their dinner.
“What is your final decision?”
He picked up his cutlery without glancing up. “Let’s eat first.”
Nina finally breathed a sigh of relief. Everyone had their own weakness, and Audrey was exactly Julian’s soft spot.
The meal passed in tense silence. After leaving the restaurant, Julian discarded all formal pleasantries. He handed Nina his contact card, told Jacob to get the car ready, and left straight away.
Nina stared at the name card in her hand, feeling a huge weight lift off her chest.

Just then, a car engine drew her attention. Jensen had parked outside long ago, watching her and Julian leave the dining spot quietly.
Nina fell silent the moment their eyes met.
Seeing her turn to leave, his expression turned cold. He stepped forward and grabbed her wrist firmly.
“Did you come all the way here just to strike business deals with Julian?”
“You saw it all clearly yourself. I was talking business with your fiancée’s brother. I’ve even promised him I’ll keep my distance from you.”
She pulled her arm free gently.
“I’m truly grateful that you’ve checked in on my parents all these years. Yet our family’s past kindness is nothing worth remembering forever. I only hope you won’t stand in our way and let us live peacefully. Let us settle all old debts and cut off all contact from now on.”
“Nina!”
Jensen’s face darkened sharply, stopping her from leaving once more.
“I suppose your fiancée has no idea you’re here looking for me?”
His grip froze instantly.
“Now that you’re engaged, you ought to stay faithful to her. Lingering around other women is not the act of a proper man. Don’t make me see you as no different from Chase. We were once friends, but from now on, we are total strangers.”
This time, Jensen did not chase after her as she walked away. He let out a bitter laugh the moment she vanished from sight, knowing deep down he was no longer worthy of her.
He massaged his temples to steady his emotions and dialed his secretary.
“Drive after her and escort her safely back to her hotel.”
Kent soon caught up with Nina. He slowed the car down and leaned out the window.
“Ms. Tann, please get in. You’re unfamiliar with this place. It’s not safe walking alone. Mr. Grey means well…”
