Chase saw how uncomfortable Katrina looked, and even though he wanted to stay, he backed down. “Alright. Text me when you get home, okay?”

Katrina nodded quickly–she couldn’t wait for Chase to leave.

Before he left, Chase told Tara and the others to look after Katrina.

Tara and her friends watched Chase’s gentle care for Katrina with obvious envy.

When Tara noticed Nina focused on her work, pretending not to listen, she said loudly, “Chase is so good to Katrina. I heard he’s already planning to propose! Katrina, your family runs a huge company–you two are probably getting engaged right after graduation, right?”

Katrina blushed and said, “I… I don’t know.”

“How could you not know? Lots of rich kids get engaged right after high school, then marry when they’re legal. Chase loves you so much–he’d never let you go study abroad alone. The Mercers might even visit the Sawyers to propose soon!”

“Totally! Katrina, you’re pretty, sweet, and the Sawyer heiress. You and Chase are perfect together. He’d never let you go overseas by yourself–he’ll definitely go with you.”

Watching everyone’s excited faces, Katrina imagined herself marrying into the wealthy Mercer family one day.

Nina listened and scoffed inwardly.

Katrina had married before in her past life. Three years after high school graduation, at a class reunion, Katrina had already come back from studying abroad and was dating a wealthy foreign guy. They got engaged quickly.

Chase had been there too. When he heard the news, he lost his temper in front of everyone, his

eyes red with anger. He chased Katrina outside, demanding to talk to her alone.

Back then, Nina had already been Chase’s wife. His scene had humiliated her in front of all their former classmates.

Later, the Mercer Group grew bigger and bigger, and Chase became one of the most powerful businessmen in Linholt.

Around that time, Katrina’s husband’s business failed, and he jumped to his death.

The loud noise caught Tara and the others‘ attention.

Tara sneered, “What? Someone can’t stand hearing the truth?”

“Katrina was just born lucky. Nina, don’t be jealous. Maybe if you were born rich and better- looking in your next life, Chase might notice you.”

The others laughed openly at Nina, but Jensen couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up, walked straight to Tara, and threw her backpack out the window in front of her.

Tara’s face turned furious. “Jensen! Are you crazy?!”

“I don’t hit girls, but don’t push me.”

Jensen kicked her desk hard. The other students who had been teasing Nina immediately fell silent.

It was almost summer break–none of them wanted to get into a fight.

Just then, a middle–aged man’s voice came from the doorway. “Is this Class A?”

The man was in his forties, with a fit build but a worn look and a few gray hairs. He was dressed as a driver, his sneakers scuffed and his hands rough.

If Nina was right, this was Katrina’s father, David.

Katrina froze–she hadn’t expected him to arrive so soon. Before she could think of what to say, Tara asked suspiciously, “Who are you?”
