Nina felt like her eardrums were about to burst from his loud voice. “I’m out house-hunting with Jensen right now. What are you even talking about?”
“What? You two are already at the point of looking for a place together?
“No wonder Jensen suddenly called off his eng it with Audrey! It’s all because of you!
Alright then, when exactly did you two get together behind everyone’s backs?”
“That’s not how it is…”
Nina tried to explain herself, but Jensen reached out and took her phone right away. He spoke straight to Caleb on the line. “We still have things to tak

He ended the call without another word.
Nina stared at him in shock. “Y-you just hung up on him?”
“It was pretty obvious I had to.”

“Caleb’s bound to misunderstand what’s going on between us. What if he goes and talks nonsense to my parents later on?”
“Let him say whatever he wants.”
“Huh?”
Jensen said in a calm tone, “Didn’t you say you and Caleb used each other as a shield to ward off unwanted suitors before?”
“I did say that, so what?”
“Then it can work the same way with me instead.”
“What do you mean it’s the same?” Nina frowned. “People already gossiped about me being close to Caleb before. Now that you’ve broken things off with Audrey, everyone will start whispering about you and me next. Won’t that make me look like I’m playing the field with two people at once?”
She grew uneasy thinking about all the rumors spreading in their social circle. It would only

take one night for her to get dragged into another messy romance scandal all over again.
That evening, Nina headed back home, with Jensen coming along beside her.
Her parents were already sitting in the living room waiting for them, their expressions unusually stern the moment they laid eyes on Jensen.
Nina knew her parents well. If they thought she had stepped in to ruin another person’s relationship, they would surely give her a severe scolding.
“Come over here and sit down,” Esther said, her usual gentle tone gone completely serious.
Nina had no choice but to take a seat across from them, and Jensen sat down right beside her.
Esther took a deep breath and spoke firmly, “One of you two explain this to us clearly. What exactly is going on between you two?”
“Mom, actually Jensen and I are just…”
Before Nina could finish her words, Jensen cut in first. “Mr. Tann, Mrs. Tann, all of this is my fault, and Nina has nothing to do with it.”
“What do you mean by that? Did you end your engagement with Ms. Beaumont all because of Nina?”
“It’s partly because of her, yet not entirely.” Jensen fell silent for a moment before speaking earnestly. “I have feelings for Nina, and that is why I could never go through with marrying Audrey.”
Both of Nina’s parents were left stunned, and Nina herself froze in place too.
This was totally unexpected. They had never gone over this part of the conversation during their drive earlier.
“Jensen, what are you doing?” Nina leaned in and whispered softly out of earshot of her parents. “Don’t go saying things you don’t mean.”
Jensen kept his tone steady and sincere. “I plan to pursue Nina properly. I made the choice to call off the engagement all on my own. Nina never knew about my feelings for her at all, and she is in no way a homewrecker. I will never let anyone label her as such. Within three days, I will give all of you, as well as Nina, a proper and clear answer.”
Marvin studied him closely for a long while. Deep down, he had always thought Jensen was the perfect match for Nina. If it hadn’t been for Jensen’s prior engagement arrangement, they would have long hoped for the two to settle down together.
