Nina frowned. Jensen’s grades had always been strong. Even when he was in Class F, he’d never dropped out of the top five.
If it were that simple, wouldn’t he have transferred back long ago?
“You’re messing with me, aren’t you?” she asked, skeptical.
“…It’s true.”
His voice was quiet, and he avoided her gaze.
From what Nina knew of him, he was definitely holding something back. But if he didn’t want to say more, she wouldn’t press.
At least now he was in Class A. That alone was a good thing.
With his talent, getting into Linholt’s top track was nothing–he could easily earn a full scholarship to study abroad if he wanted.
“This is great,” Nina said, clearly pleased. “Now we can study together every day. I won’t have to wait for breaks to get your help anymore.”
Since her rebirth, she’d forgotten most of what she once knew for the SAT. But Jensen was an excellent tutor–he explained things even better than the teachers. In less than a month, she’d already regained a solid grasp of the material she used to know.
At this rate, helping each other like this, they’d have no trouble getting into the best universities together.
Meanwhile, Katrina and Chase moved into Class C.
Most of the students there ranked in the lower–middle range, and their reaction to the two newcomers was far from warm. No one liked having outsiders suddenly dropped into their class.
The homeroom teacher, Margaret Holt, assigned Katrina and Chase seats near the front. After all, their grades were still relatively strong.
Katrina glanced at the worn desks and chairs, clearly inferior to what she was used to, and a flicker of disdain crossed her face. “Ms. Holt, can I bring my own desk and chair from before?”

Margaret saw right through her. “School furniture is shared. Now that you’re in Class C, this is what you’ll be using.”
Katrina frowned. Though unhappy, she sat down anyway.
The desks in Class C were all hand–me–downs from previous years, covered in scratches and grime. They looked nothing like the neat, polished ones in Class A, and there were no tablets to go with them.
Chase took the seat beside her. He didn’t usually care about things like this, but as the heir to a
off. wealthy family, even he couldn’t help feeling a bit put
Once Margaret left, Katrina lowered her voice, sounding aggrieved. “Chase, this is all my fault. Now you have to suffer here with me.”
She meant it as a soft, almost coquettish complaint, but to the rest of the class, it came off as pure condescension.
The mood around them shifted instantly.
“It’s fine. I chose this,” Chase said. “If you want your own desk and chair, I’ll buy you a new set. I’ll get you a tablet too.”
Katrina’s eyes lit up. “Chase, you’re too good to me.”
The girl sitting behind her rolled her eyes, clearly disgusted. “Give me a break.”
Hearing the comment, Chase frowned and turned around. “What did you just say?”
“I said you’re showing off.”
Outside of Classes A and B, most students already looked down on people like Chase and Katrina. Now that they were in the same room, no one bothered to hide it.
Chase’s face darkened. Back in Class A, no one would’ve dared talk to him like that.
“You’re here to study, not to flash your money and chase girls,” the girl shot back. “Think you’re impressive just because you can buy your girlfriend a bunch of school equipment? If that’s not showing off, what is?”
Laughter broke out around the room.
“Exactly. So what if you’re rich? In Class C, that doesn’t make you special. You can buy all the equipment you want–your grades won’t magically improve.”

“You A–class people always looked down on us. And now look at you–stuck here with us. Guess things really do come full circle.”
