Chapter 48 You’re Different

Wesley hadn’t even finished speaking when Jensen and Nina’s car sped off.

A driver by the roadside rolled down his window and called out, “Mr. Beck, shall we head out as well?“

Wesley glanced at his own Rolls–Royce, then thought of Jensen getting into that Bentley just now. He let out a sigh. “Would’ve been nice if he lived at my place.”

In the car, Nina turned to Jensen. “What’s your relationship with Wesley?”

“We’re friends.”

“Best friends?”

“Yeah.”

For some reason, that answer left a faint sour note in Nina’s chest. “Then what about me?”

“You’re different.”

“What does that even mean?”

“Just… different.”

Jensen clearly wasn’t interested in continuing the topic, but Nina pressed on. “As for Hunter–he might not look very reliable, but he’s actually someone worth being friends with.”

Jensen remembered the way she’d been watching Hunter’s back earlier. His brows knit together. “Why?”

In the future, Hunter would build a successful business with his quick mind, founding Black Group and becoming a well–known figure in the education industry.

Of course, Nina couldn’t tell Jensen any of that. She shrugged instead. “I just think he’s a good guy. Seems loyal, too. And most importantly, he beat Chase up pretty badly. Hard not to like someone like that.”

Jensen’s frown deepened. “You like him?”

“Yeah. He’s got a solid character, and he’s got that bright, handsome look–what’s not to like?”

It never even crossed Nina’s mind that “like” could mean anything romantic. She was only thinking about building connections another option for the future.

The next morning, the hallway bulletin board was surrounded by a crowd of students.

Nina and Jensen arrived at school together. Before they even reached their classroom, the students gathered around the board and started shooting them strange looks. A few whispered among themselves.

Sensing something was off, Nina stepped forward and pushed her way through the crowd. Plastered across the board we than a dozen photos of her and Jensen–every one of them suggestive.

There were shots of them working on problems together in class. Others showed them joking around in the library. Some captur them swimming in the pool. There was even one from yesterday, the two of them getting into a car together.

The photos weren’t just from this semester–there were some from last term as well. The entire board was covered with images the two of them. There wasn’t a single word written, but anyone could tell what it implied: an accusation of an inappropriate relationship.
