At the mention of her name, irritation crept in. Lately, he and Katrina had been arguing nonstop–small fights every couple of days, bigger ones every few. He was always the one giving in, always the one apologizing. It was starting to wear on him.
Looking back at Nina, he frowned and said, “I’ll break up with her.”
“Really?”
Nina pulled out her phone and held it up in front of him.
On the screen, it clearly showed an ongoing call with Katrina.
Chase’s expression changed instantly.
Nina smiled faintly. From the phone came Katrina’s voice, breaking with anger and tears. “Chase! How could you do this to me? You jerk!”
After Chase hadn’t answered her calls earlier, Katrina had tried Nina instead. Nina had picked up–and everything she and Chase had just said had been heard.
“Nina! You-”
Realizing he’d been led into saying all of that, Chase’s face darkened.
Nina, however, walked to the door and quickly unlocked the one Cecilia had secured from the outside.
She had lived in this house for years in her past life. A locked door wasn’t going to stop her.
The moment the door opened, Katrina rushed in from the yard.
Her face was flushed with anger. She raised her hand to slap Nina, but Nina caught her wrist midair.
“You-!”
Katrina struggled, but Nina held her firmly, not letting her get any closer.
“Chase is the one who said he wanted to get engaged to me,” Nina said evenly. “I never agreed. If you’re going to hit someone, hit him.”

With that, she shoved Katrina further into the house.

Seeing the tear–streaked look on Katrina’s face, Chase hurried forward, flustered. “Katrina, listen to me–what just happened was-”
Smack.
The sound rang sharp and clear as Katrina’s hand struck his face.
The side of his cheek burned, but he swallowed his anger. This time, he knew he was at fault. He softened his tone, trying to soothe her.
“Katrina, it’s my fault. I was forced into it. Believe me–there’s only you in my heart.”
Hearing Chase’s words made Nina’s stomach churn.
She turned and walked out, making sure to close the Mercer house door behind her.
In her previous life, Chase had gone to any lengths to be with Katrina. He’d locked her–his childhood sweetheart and wife–away in a mental institution, and their two children had died because of him.
This time, she had broken off the engagement, letting Chase and Katrina be together as they wished. And yet his “love” was so cheap–it had shifted in just a few months.
Fine. Let them tear each other apart.
She had a bright future ahead of her.
As for Chase and Katrina…
Nina let out a cold laugh.
College was the turning point in life. In her last life, she had given up her future for Chase.
Not this time.
This time, she would sit back and watch them sink deeper into their so–called love, unable to pull themselves out.
Outside the Mercer house, Jensen stood beside the Tann family’s car, clearly having been there for a while.
Nina paused, then walked over. “Didn’t you say you’d come at eight?”
