Seeing her soften, Chase’s expression eased as well.
No matter what, he still liked Katrina.

It was just that lately she’d been at odds with him, which had been weighing on his mind. And just now, under the influence of alcohol, he hadn’t been able to stop himself from forcing things with her. A part of him felt guilty about it.
“I’m the one who should apologize,” he said. “I never should’ve gone along with my mom and agreed to that proposal with Nina. That won’t happen again.”
He looked at Katrina with deep affection. “After we graduate, I’ll come to your home properly and make things official. You’ll be mine, and no one will ever bully you again.”
Hearing his promise, Katrina nodded shyly.
Early the next morning, Chase still hadn’t come home. Furious, Cecilia stormed to the school.
From her seat in the classroom, Nina spotted Cecilia heading straight for the office. It had to be about what happened yesterday.
Cecilia walked in, looked around, and didn’t see Margaret anywhere, so she picked a seat and sat down.
Two students nearby approached, and she asked, “Where’s Ms. Holt?”
“She’s probably teaching the morning class. She should be back soon.”
Cecilia nodded at the answer.
Not long after, two students from Class A came in carrying a stack of materials, chatting idly as they walked.
“Chase transferred to Class C for Katrina. It’s like something straight out of a novel.”
“Well, look at who Katrina is. She’s a Sawyer–the Sawyer family’s daughter.”
“True. With a background like hers, only someone like Chase would match her.”
Hearing that, Cecilia stood up, frowning. “The Katrina you’re talking about–is she the one

dating Chase?”
“Yeah. There’s only one Katrina in our grade.”
“And she’s really from the Sawyer family?”
“Yep.”
Once she got confirmation, a flicker of delight crossed Cecilia’s face.

She hadn’t expected her son to be this capable–his girlfriend was actually the Sawyer family’s daughter.
This was a huge win.
“Mrs. Mercer, I heard you were looking for me?”
Margaret walked in just then.
Cecilia’s anger vanished, replaced by a warm smile. “Ms. Holt, I just came to let you know that I’m aware of my son’s relationship. I’d appreciate it if the school didn’t interfere too much in his personal life.”
With that, she lifted her chin and walked out of the office.
In Linholt, who didn’t know the Sawyer family’s reputation and influence? What kind of status did a Sawyer daughter have? How could Nina possibly compare?
If her son really married into the Sawyer family one day, the Mercers would never have to lower themselves to curry favor with the Tann family again.
Watching Cecilia leave with such affected composure–so different from the furious way she’d stormed in earlier–Nina frowned slightly.
Had Cecilia… changed her mind?
“Hey, did you hear? Chase’s mom just came by!”
“I saw her. What was Mrs. Mercer doing here? Don’t tell me she came to complain about Chase getting moved to Class C.”
“Not at all. I heard it myself in the office–she told the teacher to let Chase and Katrina date and not interfere in their family matters.”
“Wow. That’s an incredibly open–minded mom.”
