Sloane nodded. “Yes, Ms. Tann. We can arrange delivery, and payment can be made upon

arrival.”

“Then why not have the dresses sent to the Sawyer residence?” Nina said casually. “Katrina’s father can just pay when they arrive. It’s the Sawyer family–we’re talking about millions in transactions every day. They’re not going to balk at a few hundred thousand.”

With Nina and Sloane backing each other up, Katrina felt a cold sweat break out.

If they delivered the dresses, her identity would be exposed.

He can definitely afford it!”

Katrina’s tone turned earnest. Nina nodded without hesitation.

“Sure.”

Nina pulled out her card. “We’ll pay together, but issue separate receipts. And give the receipts to me. Also, could you bring me some paper and a pen? I need to write something down.”

“Of course, Ms. Tann.”

At the mention of an IOU, Tara frowned. “Nina, we’re classmates. It’s not like Katrina would refuse to pay you back. Do we really need to write one?”

“We do,” Nina said calmly. “Three hundred seventy–six thousand isn’t a small amount. Of course, Katrina, as a Sawyer, wouldn’t default–but I’d like the peace of mind. I’m sure you don’t mind, Katrina?”

Nina was smiling. Katrina wasn’t. “Of course not. Why would I ever not pay you back?”

“Good.”

Sloane returned with paper and a pen. Nina quickly wrote up the IOU and set it in front of Katrina and Tara. “Sign here.”

The note clearly stated that Nina had covered a payment of three hundred seventy–six thousand dollars on behalf of Katrina and Tara, with repayment due three days after Chase’s birthday party.

Katrina stared at it for a moment, then clenched her teeth and signed her name, pressing her thumbprint beside it.

Nina picked up the IOU and checked it over carefully.

Tara leaned in. “The IOU’s signed. You can pay now, right?”

“Of course,” Nina said lightly. “Didn’t I already hand over my card?”

She glanced at Sloane. “Go ahead and run it.”
