At the sight of Sloane, Katrina was at a loss for words. Tara, standing beside her, quickly added, “Wrap mine up too.”
“Of course, miss.”
As Sloane packaged the dresses, she said evenly, “Your total comes to three hundred seventy- six thousand dollars. Will you be paying separately or together?”
Katrina and Tara both froze.
Tara blinked in disbelief. “How much did you say? Three hundred seventy–six thousand?”
For a high school student, a six–figure price tag was unimaginable.
Katrina’s face drained of color. From the side, Nina spoke lightly, “Oh, it’s only three hundred seventy–six thousand. Ms. Sawyer is a Sawyer, after all. Honestly, dresses at this price point don’t really suit her status. Maybe she should try that custom–made gown–the one for five hundred thousand.”
Tara’s face flushed with anxiety. “Your dresses are ridiculously expensive! This is basically robbery!”
“I’m sorry, miss. These are our standard prices,” Sloane replied calmly. “And the young lady with you is from the Sawyer family. I’m sure three hundred seventy–six thousand is a trivial amount for Ms. Sawyer.”
She turned to Katrina with a polite smile. “Ms. Sawyer, perhaps you could cover the payment for your friend as well?”
Katrina’s expression grew even worse, but Tara’s eyes lit up instantly. She tugged at Katrina’s arm, sounding almost pleading. “Katrina, didn’t you say your parents give you a generous allowance every month? It’s just a dress–you wouldn’t be stingy, would you?”
Just a dress?
No dress should cost hundreds of thousands.
Katrina bit her lip. When she looked up, she met Tara’s expectant gaze. “Tara, it’s not that I don’t want to buy it for you. It’s just… my parents cut off my allowance recently. I don’t have much money on me right now.”
“Not much?” Nina cut in. “How much is that?”

Katrina forced a smile. “A few thousand dollars.”

“A few thousand?” Nina smiled faintly. “That probably wouldn’t even cover the tulle on this dress.”
She paused, then added, “How about this–I’ll pay for both dresses. We’re classmates, after all. You can just pay me back later.”
Tara hesitated, caught off guard.
Wasn’t Nina supposed to be a driver’s daughter? How could she possibly come up with that kind of money?
She eyed Nina skeptically. “Stop bluffing. Where would you even get that much?”
“That’s not your concern,” Nina said coolly. “I don’t mind covering it, but you’ll need to sign an IOU. It’s over three hundred thousand–I’m not just handing that out.”
She lifted her gaze to Katrina. “I’ll lend you three hundred seventy thousand. Add in the six thousand Katrina has, and it’ll cover everything. In a few days, Katrina can pay me back the full amount. I won’t charge interest–consider it her treating you. You won’t owe me anything, Tara. Sounds fair, doesn’t it?”
Tara wavered.
Money could be borrowed, at least for now.
But a dress like this? If she missed it, she might never get another chance.
And Nina’s terms didn’t seem to cost her anything at all.
Tara immediately turned to Katrina. “Katrina, this is a great deal. Nina’s willing to lend us three hundred seventy thousand–we can buy the dress and wear it to Chase’s birthday party. You look amazing in it. He’s definitely going to love it!”
Katrina was getting anxious. She liked the dress, but there was no way she could come up that kind of money afterward.
Forget three hundred seventy thousand–she didn’t even have six thousand.
