Nina’s lips curved slightly. “What if the Mercer family goes bankrupt?”

It hit her like a bolt out of the blue. Cecilia nearly collapsed, dizzy with shock and anger.

When Chase walked in and saw several lawyers gathered at the door, he rushed inside. “Mom!”

“My son…” Cecilia hurried over and grabbed his arm. “Katrina… she’s really not the Sawyer family’s daughter? She isn’t?”

Seeing the last flicker of hope in her eyes, Chase could only shake his head.

That was all it took. The final thread snapped, and Cecilia seemed to lose all strength.

“Mrs. Mercer, we’ll return in three days. Please remain reachable in the meantime.”

With that, the lawyers turned and left.

Frowning, Chase asked, “Mom, what’s going on?”

Cecilia clutched his arm, her voice trembling. “Chase, you have to find a way to make up with Nina. That’s our only way out!”

“Two hundred million! And another twenty million in interest! How are we supposed to pay that back?”
