Cecilia grabbed him tightly. “You can’t confront her like that. Go ask her–plead with her. Maybe she’ll soften.”
“You expect me to beg her? Not a chance!”
With that, Chase stormed out, jumped into his car, and sped all the way to the Tann family’s front gate.
The security guards at the Tann residence recognized Chase the moment he showed up again, their expressions turning openly impatient.
“Why is it you again? Ms. Tann said she won’t see you.”
“Get Nina out of here!”
Veins throbbed at Chase’s temples–he was furious.
From the second floor, Nina looked down through the window. Chase tried to force his way in, only to be shoved back by the guards and knocked awkwardly to the ground.
A cold smile curled on her lips.
Chase, Chase… being shut out doesn’t feel so good, does it?
Back in her previous life, when the Tann family fell into trouble, he’d done the same to her- kept her out without a second thought. She had been heavily pregnant then, yet he’d deliberately sent her back to her parents‘ home, just so she could watch the Tann family fall
apart.
Now, he was finally getting a taste of that same helplessness.
“Ring-”
The phone from the security room buzzed inside her bedroom. Nina picked it up.
“Ms. Tann, he won’t leave. We can’t drive him off, no matter what,” the guard said on the other end.
Looking at Chase still standing outside the gates, Nina’s voice turned icy. “Ignore him. If he wants to wait, let him wait. A night, a day, three days–it doesn’t matter. I’m not seeing him.”

Downstairs, Marvin and Esther watched Chase stubbornly lingering outside the gates, both frowning.
When Nina came down, Marvin hesitated before speaking, a hint of concern in his voice. “Nina… is this really the right thing to do?”
“What’s wrong with it?” Esther cut in before Nina could answer. “After everything the Mercer family did to us, we’ve already been more than generous. Nina shouldn’t see him. Who knows -maybe they’re just trying to worm their way back into our family again.”
Esther was well known among the social elite, and she’d already heard about what happened at the Mercer family’s birthday banquet the night before.
“I was wondering how that woman from the Mercer family could give up on marrying into our family so quickly,” Esther went on. “Turns out she thought she’d latched onto the Sawyer family’s daughter. And look how that blew up–such a public scandal last night. Just think about it–if it had been our daughter getting engaged to Chase today, how much would Nina have suffered?”
Marvin nodded slowly, his expression darkening. He hadn’t expected the Mercer family to be so heartless.
They had tried to help them out of goodwill, only for the Mercers to turn around and try to drag them down with them.
“Dad,” Nina said, “isn’t the company working on a real estate project right now? I think the land at Goldwater Bay looks promising. We should buy it next time–it might skyrocket in value.”
“Goldwater Bay?” Marvin paused. “That place isn’t worth much. It’s just undeveloped land. We’d definitely lose money.”
“But I heard Jensen analyze it,” Nina said. “It may be undeveloped now, but it could have real commercial potential in a few years. It’s just one piece of land–nothing major for the Tann family. Let’s buy it, okay? Consider it my coming–of–age gift, Dad?”
She leaned in, coaxing him. After a moment, Marvin gave in with a sigh. “Alright, alright. We’ll do it your way. We’ll buy the land at Goldwater Bay.”
Nina’s face lit up instantly. “Thanks, Dad!”
