Ever since Katrina and Chase had left, Jensen had taken over the teaching assistant role, while Nina naturally became class president. Now, they were the backbone of Class A–no one dared to spread gossip or challenge them.
After class, Dora could be heard in the office lecturing Chase.
“If you don’t improve your grades next month, you’ll be moved to Class D! Think about that carefully!”
Nina was standing at the office door when she heard this. The next monthly exam was approaching, and both Chase and Katrina had barely studied this month, not even reviewing past material. Pulling good grades out of thin air under these circumstances seemed nearly impossible.
Chase stormed out of the office shortly after, his face dark with anger. He collided with Nina, and fury surged through him.
“Nina! This is all your fault!”
“Chase, this is right outside the office. If you even think about touching me, I’ll make sure you can’t graduate,” Nina warned coolly.
Faced with her threat, Chase immediately backed down. Being in their final year, missing the SAT would have ruined his future.
“You just want me to beg, don’t you? Fine–I’m begging you! Cancel the debt my family owes your family!”
Chase’s surrender came out like an order.
Nina, who had long known he could never let go of his pride, let out a soft laugh. “Chase, you’ve got it all wrong. The Mercer family’s debt involves two companies. What does that have to do with me? One word from me won’t decide the fate of your family. And as for the money Katrina owes me, that belongs to my mother. She’s made it clear–if Katrina doesn’t pay, she’ll come to school for an explanation and can even take it to court.”
“Nina! Do you really have to be so ruthless?”
Looking at Chase’s furious expression, Nina’s smile widened. “Chase, you’re calling me ruthless? Your Mercer family tried to use the Tann family to pay off your debts—you did that without a second thought. Now you’re saying I’m being cruel? Everything the Tanns have done is completely legal. We’re only taking back what belongs to us.”

Chase didn’t expect Nina to know what they had been planning back then. He froze for a moment, caught off guard.
By the time he recovered, Nina had already stepped away from his side.
Back then, when his mother urged him to marry Nina, it had been a way to have the Tann family repay the Mercer family’s debt. At the time, he had only focused on his own unwillingness, never once considering how much it might hurt Nina.
Nina reached the door of Class A, only to find the classroom completely empty. Confused, she was startled when Jensen lightly tapped her on the shoulder from behind.
She jumped, then relaxed when she saw it was him.
“Why’s the class empty? Is the next period gym?” she asked.
“You’re about to see quite a show,” Jensen replied simply.
With just that, Nina immediately turned her gaze toward Class C.
Outside the classroom, a crowd had gathered–when and how, she had no idea. She grabbed Jensen’s hand, and they made their way over. From inside Class C came faint sounds of shouting.
Nina arrived a little late. A tall student blocked her view, leaving her frustrated–until suddenly, a pair of strong hands lifted her up from behind.
Startled, she looked back and saw Jensen holding her gently, head bowed.
“Thanks!” she said with a small smile, leaning forward to peek into the room.
She caught sight of Tara yanking Katrina’s hair.
Katrina was already slight and frail; Tara’s assault left her no chance to fight back.
“I told you not to lie to me! And you have the nerve to make me give you back the clothes? How dare you!” Tara hissed, pulling hard. Once admired by the boys at school, Katrina now looked nothing like her usual self–more like a scolded woman, her image utterly ruined.
“What are you doing?!”
Chase sprinted toward the commotion, pushing through the crowd. He rushed inside and stood protectively in front of Katrina. The surrounding students scattered. Nina gestured to Jensen to put her down.
