Tara, still furious, ignored everyone else. “Katrina lies all the time! And now she has the audacity to claim she’s the Sawyer heiress? I already checked- the real Sawyer daughter is studying abroad! She’s just the driver’s daughter! She tricked so many of us, and now she still wants my things?!”

Katrina, stunned that her family background had been dug up, went pale. “Those clothes were mine to buy for you! I just don’t want to now–why can’t I get them back?”

“Ugh! You still have the nerve to say that? That money came from Nina–you’re the one who borrowed it to buy the clothes!” Tara sneered. “If you didn’t have the cash, don’t pretend to be rich! I bet when you signed that IOU, you were just hoping Chase would pay it for you. Clever little scheme, huh?”

Katrina’s face fell even further.

Tara glared at Chase. “Chase, don’t say I didn’t warn you. This woman is nothing but trouble- you’re going to get burned if you stick with her.”

“That’s enough!” Chase’s face darkened. His eyes flicked toward Nina, who was watching from outside the door. His voice turned icy. “Nina, keep your students under control. Otherwise, I’ll have to call Mr. Kent.”

Nina frowned, feeling unfairly singled out. “This is Tara and Katrina’s personal feud. I’m the creditor–I only care about getting my money back. If I don’t, they have to return the clothes. Chase, even if you call Mr. Kent, this matter still needs to be settled, right?”

Chase’s expression immediately hardened, seeing how Nina seemed to side with Tara.

“Lying comes with consequences, Katrina,” Tara said coldly. “You chose to buy this for me. Now you want the clothes back? Forget it–impossible.”

Katrina felt countless eyes on her, full of disdain, scorn, and ridicule. And Nina was just standing there, watching it all unfold with detached curiosity.

Does it sting to be stared at like that? Nina thought. In her previous life, these were exactly the kinds of looks she’d endured throughout high school. All the pain she’d suffered back then? She owed it entirely to

Katrina.

Now, thinking back, it almost seemed laughable.

Nina shrugged. “What else? Let it sit there.”

Katrina had no way to convince Tara. When the time came, she’d rack up a huge debt.

Whether she could pay it back or not, Nina would come out ahead.

By noon the next day, Nina spotted Chase from a distance, standing outside the boutique as she sat in the car.

She got out and walked over. He was holding two shopping bags–the dress Tara had been wearing yesterday was inside one of them.

Nina couldn’t help feeling surprised. Tara had been so adamant about refusing Katrina the day before, yet somehow the dress had still ended up back here.
